The best thing Britney could do for herself is to stop being owned by corporate America and start becoming her own person. She's essentially sold her soul to corporate America. I wouldn't be surprised if she's under contract to wear particular brands of shoes out in public.
Well, I don't think she's sold her feet to corporate America, at least not yet. Otherwise she wouldn't be going barefoot. But she's obviously under a lot of pressure to stop doing that, and I'm sure the shoe industry would love get her to sell out on that issue. The pervasiveness of the shoe industry both here and internationally is one of the reasons going barefoot just isn't done much anymore. I think their goal is to cover every bare foot in the world, and they are succeeding. Even people in traditionally barefoot cultures are seen more and more wearing sneakers. It's a shame.
What's funny is that these companies selling shoes and socks now put the name 'Barefoot' on them. I posted a long time ago about an ad campaign by a major shoe manufacturer called "No Toes Exposed'. They showed a bunch of barefoot child cartoon characters ashamed of their toes and trying to hide them. Shows you how corporate America indoctrinates young people into thinking a certain way.
It is really sad that today's young generation is growing up not knowing the joys of barefooting, especially in the summer when school's out. It's the young parents that have been indoctrinated by corporate America (the shoe industry in this case), and that has lead to the brainwashing of their children. The constant admonition, "Put your shoes on!" or "Leave you shoes on!" is heard so much by young kids nowadays that it's no wonder they grow up believing that barefooting is unhealthy and dangerous. And then you hear these people get on the Today show or VH1 or wherever and talk about how disgusting it is for Britney to go barefoot in public and about all these horrible diseases she could catch. In our so-called enlightened society today, it's just amazing the ignorance that abounds.
Really good observation Bfrank. The one thing that I don't understand is that I can put on flip flops, just a thin piece of rubber around a half inch thick beneath my foot and show pretty much the same amount of skin as if I were barefoot and it's considered acceptable. Go figure.
