    Go the Dave Matthews Band!
Yet if we're judging on international effect... I'd probably say Pearl Jam or Nirvana. Crowded House would be up there too if you're from the southern hemisphere.

The band which I believe to be the best band from the decade of the nineteen nineties is called 'Radiohead'.

    Oooops... I mean Pavement.

My vote would be for Tool and the Chili Peppers. Personally I can't stand Dave Matthews, his voice is just to whiney for me.

a band that is borderline mainstream is They Might Be Giants.
    one of my favorites, definitely.
they really hit their peak in the early 90's.
89-94 is their best stuff in my opinion.

I agree you were forgetting this fucking genius named Maynard James Keenan and you're forgetting this other genius named Trent Reznor -> NIN rulez
I couldn't decide between TooL and Nine Inch Nails.

    Radiohead probably tops for me.

The Flaming Lips was a good call, gotta mention Super Furry Animals, Suede and maybe even some Pulp. And if it wasn't for lack of albums I think Portishead and The Beta Band would make the cut.

Stone Roses were good but I wouldn't say best band of the 90's. I mean, they only released 'Second Coming' in the 90's and it's not as good as their debut which came out in '89.

Don't mean to be picky or anything :)
Massive Attack's an excellent choice though.

Nirvana and Alice in Chains are by far my two favorites. All the other shit I basicvally forgot about and moved on. There was just too much shit in the 90's.

[font=&quot]Some of the active bands/artists that I listened to a lot during the 90’s were Meat Beat Manifesto, Banco De Gaia, and Coil along with Gary Clail, Stereo MC’s, Portishead, Primal Scream and the Smashing Pumpkins. Can’t decide my fave, there were a lot of good bands in the 90's even tho the 80's was better [IMG] but given my age I would say that.

Erm cancel Banco De Gaia, Meat Beat Manifesto and Coil, as I forgot it's supposed to be mainstream and they weren't all that mainstream.

Most Versatile, and the best in my opinion:

    FAITH... NO... MORE.

though Tool definitely came a close second.

though, if they were more mainstream, I would actually say Mr. Bungle, just on the basis of the first album, with the clown. That is one kickin album, totally frenetic.

    much love :)

Wasn't it written and recorded whilst Squire was on cocaine? Your best band of the entire 90's released only one album in that decade and to fully enjoy it you have to spend £100 everytime you play it? ;)

I'll see your 'Second Coming' on the coke
And raise you 'Zaireeka' by The Flaming Lips on acid :D
