I'll give you the fact that Sid Vicious was like Johnny Rotten's dumber but cuter brother. And that Sid, Paul Cook, and Steve Jones were all puppets for Malcom McLaren. Johnny Rotten (or John Lydon as he likes to be called now)to me still is an intelligent, articulate and brilliant satirist wasn't. To me he should be more of an Icon of the punk movement. He was definately more important than Sid was. And to me he was and is still a better lyricist than Kurt Cobain was. Punk was and is meant to be a live fast die young kind of thing. Once someone from the scene becomes a martyr their importance becomes exagerrated be it Kurt Cobain or Sid Vicious. Peace Out, Rev J
Wow, I'm scared to say anything in this thread (but think that'll stop me? ) You guys know all about music down to the nitty gritty. But, I know what I like and that is Led Zeppelin and Santana. Oh, there were other bands that I like, but Zep stirs my emotions. Real adolescent stuff that has stayed with me for decades after adolescence. And, it is best served loud.
^ do you like all of santana's stuff shale. I enjoy most of the 60's and 70's stuff , but not too fond or familiar with his jazzy 80's phase. I liked supernatural but didn't care to much when he tried to repeat that on the follow up.
Honestly Shale I think there is very little music that I "Used to be into." Good point. Gorillabedlam truce? Peace Out, Rev J
rev jc Ive talked to you about music before and I know you know your shit. I just didn't see eye to eye with you on some very specific things you were pointing out about nirvana that could be said about other bands as well. I already do agree with pretty much everything that you said, and I don't know why I tend to stick up for cobain these days as I'm not a huge fan of their music. I guess I just saw where pop and rock music was at in the late 80's and the movement that cobain helped move forward (I would never argue that he started it though) as something positive. Its really just healthy debate and I agree with alot of what you said just conceding that during the argument does not strenghthen what I was trying to point out.
Plus it's kind of ironic that some stupid **** in a youth hostel will play "Rape Me" to get laid. Peace Out, Rev J
Guess I'm stuck in the past - love all of his old stuff. Black Magic Woman was a personal fav, because I was into black magic women. And early Zep really moves me when it is playing full-blast. I love the way it takes over my old bod. It is so politically incorrect, male adolescent that it connects to my inner teen-beast (Soul of a woman is created below?). How about "girl I'm gonna leave u, girl I'm gonna leave u, girl I'm gonna leave u." I mean where do you get such deep philosophical lyrics like that. But, it's not about the words, it's the delivery.
I fucking love Santana. When I was living in Miami I would meditate every morning listening to "Love, Devotion, and Surrender," The album Carlos did with John Maclaughlin. Also the song "Turn Your Light's On," offrom Supernatural kind of reflected the dark headspace I was in at that time. I had to get past Zep heads to get into Zep. Alot of that stuff especially the early stuff were old Willie Dixon songs. Yeah it was misogynistic but that is the blues. Before I go a joke. What was the Bluesman's epitaph? I didn't wake up this morning. Peace Out, Rev J
Panic! At The Disco!!!!!!!!! They're a new band, not as awesome as The Beatles obviously, but I still love them
Detroit represent!! : White Stripes The Stooges MC5 The Dirtbombs Blanche The Crucifucks Von Bondies Electric Six ....of course: all the Motown bands/groups! And if your into electronic music...Detroit is quite often cited as "The birthpace" of electronic music.
Well Eminem is not a "band". I am into electronic music, which has evolved quite a bit over the years. I think Germany had some amazing early electronic stuff, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, etc. I think allot of the early electronic stuff from Detroit sounds a bit simple now, or dated, but it was so influential. Derrick May, Carl Craig, fucking pioneers of electronic music! Their was a band I was into called Adult, over 10 years ago, and then the "electro-clash" craze took hold a few years back and I thought Adult did the electro clash sound before anyone else.
Fischerspooner are a really good electro-clash band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wprVBj3920E"]YouTube- Fischerspooner - Emerge
best electronic band imo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2TnDMZi9Oc"]YouTube- IAMX - Your joy is my low
Maybe his hateful gay-bashing messages are just too embarrassing, no matter how good his music might be. I know I haven't much cared for anything he has done because of that.
Aww I like this song...I did not like their albums after this one too much though... Electro-clash? PEACHES rules, I get a kick out that broad she is too much haa
I always thought Eminem was very clever, and had a really interesting flow as an MC. I am not a fan of the gay bashing shit either. His last album (Relapse) dissapointed me. I feel like he has turned Werid-Al-esque, his social commentary is not edgy anymore. His glory days are gone for sure.
