Nah, dude, I had just gotten off work. Still, I'd rather just post 'em as the come..Instead of spending extra time on one post. To bad you don't like that.
http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=184401156 I encourage you to keep up the fight, but at least be fair minded, & realistic on the issue.
fritz has some good points why on earth would anyone be interested in what i'm emailing in the first place? but... i'm entitled to my privacy, and the way i look at it, gmail isnt going to guarantee that. they're going to archive everything and give it up to anyone who wants it. was looking at http://www.30gigs.com/ as a possible sub for gmail. dunno...
The probelm is context. See, when the government asks Google for all the searches involving certain key words, there is no context going along with the information. If they ask for all the searches on Bin Laden, not only are they going to get all the Bin Laden loving wackjobs, but they are also going to get the teenage kid doing a term paper on him. Out of context, a search on Bin Laden looks suspicious, in context, it is a fourteen year old kid doing his home work, how will the NSA tell the difference ?
Yep, they're coming to get us all. Especially the thirteen year old. The problem is the government. I'm about the last person to go running around protecting a gigantic corporation, it just seemed to be getting out of hand. This administration has quite obviously needed an enema with ajax for some time. This.................some of us run.............................linux stuff. As if I'd never heard of it. I'll admit, that just made me see red. Nobody said I was 'forced' to run windows. I run it because I want to, because it's convenient for me, & because I'm in my thirties. Simply put, I am not rich enough in free time to be spending my current time focused on open source when everything on my job is running on windows. I'm not winning any dick size contests today. C'mon, you know you ARE soooo much kewler than I for running linux. Your superior open source skills, & the way you rubbed them in my face, sooooo hawt! :/
I am still interested in alternatives too. I do like the way gmail handles. I'll keep looking for others, thanks, nimh. This thread has taken a decidedly sour turn for me, so I'll do that from a distance. On the lighter side, I am glad to see people are trying to stay aware of these things.
it's the internet, cant take it personally, bleh gimme a good alt to gmail, make my e-life complete.... cheers!
hmm.........why did it make you mad that I commented that I run Linux?? And what does being 30 have to do with it?? Nevermind that.... I don't know why you're posts are filled with so much obvious anger, or why you're being so combative. I, nor anyone else ever attacked you........quite the contrary actually. I was just trying to carry on a dialogue with you.........it was my fallacy to try to continue that dialogue, and if I had better sense, I probably would have walked away and not made this post.............just so you know, I wasn't being trite, I was honestly pointing out that some of us run Linux.........nothing malicious about that. Nor did I claim to posess superior open source skills, nor did I try to rub that in your face...............I had an honest to God question and you misinterpreted it as an attack........even after I blatantly explained that I was not trying to be smug. Sistah I dont know where all of your anger stems from but I hope it morphes into happiness. Love and Light ~Rob
dudenamedrob, Because obvious pretentious bullshit always irritated me. Being over thirty can sometimes mean, for certain people..Like in my case, that have a hand in running a business, my precious free time is just that. You claim you weren't trying to be trite...To me it still reads back as if you were. <edit: I think I was expecting to encounter that attitude from someone> Something I got used to and tired of from previous spyware forum cruising.. I've been aware of linux since it first began to creep it's way out into the mainstream. I was a regular on certain anti-spyware forums for years. I think it's cool. Hey, I'll let it go, suffice it to say...There are many folks running linux, still many more run windows. It's pretty common, & you should be familiar with that idea. Perhaps, someday, I'll buy new shit, & make that change. Until then, I'm more interested in dealing with what I've got. I can morph, if you can morph into someone that can live side by side with your fellow net goers running a different OS, minus the 'tude. It isn't like I don't respect it. Sorry if I really misread you..Extends hand, prepares for morphing... Gives rob a big grin...
