Preview: Call of Duty 2 if you read right. There will be sequel to that game you loved so much. Based on the hit 2003 World War 2 action title, this sequel will attempt to live up to your expectations and return us to that point in time because the war is not overPage 1 of 2 No one has ever really been able to put their finger on it, but that specific time in history has always fascinated us. It was a pivotal time in history, where every decision was crucial and therefore had to be carefully weighed. One mistake could have spelled disaster for either side. Luckily all the cards were played just right. Call of Duty 2 doesn’t choose to begin where the previous leaves off. Instead, developers wanted to retell the story through a different perspective. The major differences in this Call of Duty will be the advances made to the computer AI for one. As you attempt to complete your missions you will now notice a considerable increase in difficulty because the AI will not fall for simple tricks or luck anymore. They’ve now been programmed with the capacity to adjust to the current situation and given the ability to take on multiple tasks. This means if you have the enemy backed into a corner with little hope of escape, the enemy will not just remain there and keep firing back at you in a means of defense. They will be doing so, along with trying to devise a way to tip the scales in their favor. You may be thinking to yourself, how are they going to pull that off? Well, the game mechanics have changed a bit. The game is much less restrictive. Environments can now be more easily manipulated and used to benefit either side to help you achieve the goal. So this means, in this particular situation, the enemy can also use the environment against you, by fooling you into thinking one thing, when in reality they are actually in the process of flanking you or about to take the offensive. Just don’t get too comfortable in any situation because you never know what will happen next, which is true in any wartime situation. Don’t forget you can also do the same now, which opens up the possibility of many more strategies you can try. Another difference that you will notice right off the bat, is the significant increase in game dialogue. The previous title had great sounds, but was lacking in the dialogue department. This hurt the overall team feeling as you played through the missions because you got the sense at times that you were alone. But, in a realistic setting, wars are not fought by one man. Coordination and teamwork play a key role. Therefore, the developers of Call of Duty 2 set out to change that and included over 20,000 dialogue lines in this new title. This is a nice improvement that will add much to the game, but also affect gameplay. Many of these added lines will be used by the soldiers in your team to help guide you as to the enemy’s location and even possibly how many enemies you should expect. Many people will find this to be their favorite addition to the game. All games nowadays try not to follow a linear structure because gamers hate it. So Call of Duty 2 tries to follow that new trend as well. The first title may have followed that linear structure, but this sequel will allow you to unlock campaigns of different countries, while you are playing. This means you can pick which country to finish first before seeing how the story plays out through another perspective, or if you find yourself bored with that view, you can just drop what you are doing and try something new. There are 4 different storylines in this game, so if you want to know the entire story you’ll have to complete all of them. But there are also historical battles that you can take part in, which some of you might enjoy.
Did you enjoy Medal of Honor? Then you're going to adore Call of Duty. Part of the team that produced Medal of Honor is back again, and in force. This is not just one savage campaign you'll be playing, but three of them, with different historical contexts, different weapons and all the right environments that all the best FPSs enjoy. The first campaign put us inside the shoes of a scout in the 101st Parachute Division encamped just prior to embarkation on June 6, 1944 (the Normandy Landings). Furthermore, even if the team members have a name and rank, you don't get too close to them. You need to advance with the group and get rid of obstacles because it's only in a group that you have a better chance of getting there, that's all there is to it. And if one of them "bites it," someone else simply takes their place. The key characters certainly have a hard time of it.
From England on 9th Apr 2005 User Ratings Addiction Level 9/10 Graphics 9/10 Multi-player Yes Value for money 9/10 Overall rating 10/10 Recommended Yes Good Points Fantastic mission which captures you and puts you right in the middle of WWII. It's great multi-player option is great. Any connection can use it. If that wasn't enough for you It was game of the year for 2003. It has over 40 authentic WWII weapons to choose from, 37 single player maps, 25 multiplayer maps and 9 multiplayer modes. Bad Points On Multiplayer mode if you don't have a clear, fast connection it lags and lags and lags (lag is when it keeps on freezing). Other than that it's great! General Comments Call of Duty Tip: Buy this game, if you don't own it you have no idea what your missing. It's amazing graphics, tremendous sound and great game play will keep you occupied for months and months or maybe years.
Good Points Graphics, Sound, Missions, Atmosphere Bad Points Gets very, very tough on harder settings General Comments Call of Duty is the best WWII first person shooter ever made. It beats Medal of Honour hands down with superior graphics, excellent weapon balance and great artificial intelligence from your comrades. You get to play Call of Duty in 3 episodes, through the eyes of a British, Russian and American soldier. Each chapter is markedly different as you get to use weapons specific to that army and take part in county-specific weapons (such as defending Stalingrad as a Russian). The firefights can get very tense, and because enemy intelligence is so good, they can become a test of nerve - who will pop out first to take a shot?! On a high end machine, Call of Duty looks very nice, and although there is no light-sourcing, the levels have been coloured well and textures are very sharp and realistic. Incidental music is well played, and the tank missions are excellent (could quite easliy have been used as game in their own right). Call of Duty is a worthy shoot'em up and anyone with a decent enough PC should own it.
General Comments Call of Duty is a very good game. However I noticed that it likes to spoof other war films and put you in that role. For example the Russian part of the game is entirely based around "Enemy at the gates" and the American part is based on the "Band of Brothers series". However this does not put you off too much. It is a typical first person shooter game, very similar to Medal of Honor, but with better graphics and of course the squad fighting part. This is what seperates Medal of Honor and Call of Duty apart. You are no longer expected to be dumped in a mission with 2 people maximum and fight whole squads of enemies, no. You know fight along side a squad of your own and can rely on their help. As well as this there are some great historical moments, like the taking of Pegasus bridge and the taking of Berlin and the Reichstag as the Russians.
General Comments Watched Enemy at the gate? Liked it? Then you will LOVE Call of Duty! Possibly the only FPS to recruit you in the Russian army, as well as the American and English! The Multiplayer is insane! Although your computer must be competent enough you run it, and broadband is strongly advised, this game will have you hooked! Choose what weapon you want, then your launched into an intense battlefield with up to 50 other human players running around! This game is perfect, the most realistic, AND historically accurate game your gunna get! Last thing I heard it was Game Of The Year....
General Comments Call of Duty is by far the best WW2 fps ever. Medal Of Honour has forever been knocked from the top spot of world war 2 shooters. no game has matched COD in really creating a sense of fighting in world war 2, and in really created a sense of teamwork. Its like playing a video game version of band of brothers, its absolutely brilliant. Also I feel it is to be commendated for remembering that other countries besides america actually fought in the war as you get to play as the Russians and the Brits as well (the Russian levels are great, there total bloodbaths), I could go on for ages, but I think you get how I feel about this game, its the crem de la crem of fps's BUY IT!!
General Comments Call Of Duty ROCKS . Lock and load boys and girls because its a fast paced super cool shooter of a game . Lovely graphics that outshine MOHAA . Fantastic gameplay and superb team AI in the single player game . Your platoon buddies give you cover and shout orders - excellent ! Missions are wildly different, from an airborne glider based attack as a british paratrooper to slogging through the sewers of stalingrad as a russian . A lot of the missions are clearly influenced by classic films such as dirty dozen and iron cross. Its a great game . If you are lucky or rich enough to own a top class graphics card ramp up the visual options to give yourself a real treat. Especially the " bodies " option which results in bodies staying on the map and some big piles at choke points. The online game is great too , lots of maps and some decent clans for good team tactics . A lot of fun , well produced , excellent sound , 1.6 gig install.
Call of Duty 2 military advisors Q&A Activision's military advisors explain some of the finer points of Call of Duty 2. Activision has released a short internally produced Q&A with John Hillen and Hank Keirsey, the military advisors on Call of Duty 2. There's also three new screens from the game for you to enjoy. Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your background? (Hank) I'm Hank Keirsey, retired Lieutenant Colonel, US Army - twenty-four years of service with the Army, three years with Activision. I have a bachelor's degree from West Point and a master's in history from Duke. I taught military history at the Military Academy. I am a combat veteran of the first Gulf War and returned from Iraq last May working with a contractor. I served three years at the Army's premier training center- - I have seen and trained over 1000 infantry platoons. I trained West Point cadets in tactics and leadership for five years. With the Call of Duty franchise, John and I are here to help pass on our experiences and further help the team make the most intense and authentic game possible. (John) I'm John Hillen, retired US Army Captain - twelve years of service with the Army and three years with Activision as a military advisor to all the games in the Call of Duty franchise. I served in combat in the first Gulf War as a cavalry officer and have also served with airborne and special operations units the world over. I have a Master's Degree in War Studies from King's College London and a PhD from Oxford. I've written several books and hundreds of articles in military affairs and military history. I review books for the New York Post and am an on-air commentator for ABC News. One of the missions in the game depicts the desert battle that took place in Toujane, between General Montgomery's 8th Army and General Rommel's Afrikakorps, what was the importance and significance of this battle? (Hank) The desert war between Rommel and Montgomery has held a fascination for historians and military buffs for a long time. Vast expanses of desert and formations of tanks maneuvered like so many ships in a huge ocean of sand - each side always searching for that key flank or weak point in the other side's disposition. Armored platforms accelerated the speeds at which battles developed - in a blink, if you dropped your guard, you could have tanks thundering through your rear areas. And, that spells trouble. We tend to think of the desert war as pure tank combat, but champion Armored formations were those that understood the coordination needed between tanks and infantry: too many antitank guns ahead - root 'em out with grunts; enemy tanks ahead - then lead with armor. The battle in Toujane showcases a fight where, because of the tight quarters of houses and narrow valleys, the tanks and infantry really need to work closely together. A heads up from a grunt to a tanker about what's in a window or around a corner can make all of the difference for success. (John) This battle was the culmination of a titanic campaign that had swept back and forth across North Africa for over two years already. And it involved some of the most well-known military personalities of the war in Rommel and Montgomery. The action in Toujane was part of a larger attack on the Mareth Line, a heavily fortified set of German defensive positions known as the Maginot Line of Africa. Nonetheless, in heavy fighting in 1943 Montgomery managed to break through Rommel's line and flank him, marking the beginning of the end for the Afrikakorps. The challenges of fighting in Toujane and the close coordination of tanks, infantry, and even air support seen in this mission make this an excellent and intensive battle that was historically decisive. Final Fantasy Tactics...such a deep story line and soooooo many characters that sometimes it's confusing. I've played it 100 times over and I'm still not tired of it, the disk is almost toast from scratches...and it's going to be next to impossible to find another copy.
buncha crappy lists in my opinion... hehehe Best games... i dont wanna have to choose one. Starcraft, Fallout 1 & 2, Diablo 1, Legend of Zelda: ocarina of time, legend of zelda: a link to the past, Doom, Civilization 1, wolfenstein, C&C: Red Alert, Contra 3, early mario games best new game is probably Morrowind in my opinion. all those first person shooters were good but they weren't really influential... if i had to pick a new fps that kinda changed the way ppl are looking at fps' it'd be battlefield 1942. games im playing recently: still life, boiling point, madagascar, guild wars, restricted area, nfl 2k5
I'm I the only person who didn't find medal of honor to be. . . entertaining? I stick with unreal. Not unreal Tournament or any of its successors, and not uneal 2. Just good old atmospheric, colorful, pretty, exploration-packed unreal 1. God I wish they would have stuck with the original unreal formula when they made Unreal 2. Instead they made a mediocre halo clone whose only high point was its graphics.
