Nobody has suggested she leave the kid at home alone, not sure where you get that BS from.

I didn't say anyone suggested she leave the kid alone. I didn't suggest we single out Wal-Mart.

If she left the kid alone at home he probably would have got stuck in the dryer and people would be calling the mother even more names. :)

It's a consumer advocacy forum. We have to expect the topics to be about consumer advocacy.

but why should she have even taken her sick child out at 3:30 in the morning? and to go to wal-mart, no less? i'm pretty sure the article said she did it because the baby couldn't sleep, not because they were out of his cold medicine or anything legitimate. if she was supervising her baby, how was it capable of getting in the machine?

anyway, as for consumer advocacy... i advocate inept mothers to consume a parenting course or a babysitter. if only common sense was for sale...;)

My guess is she'll never do it again. But then people will surprise you, I know they shock the hell outta me sometimes.

I don't know why she went at 3am. It's not really relavent to getting stuck in the machine. Maybe because Wal-Mart is always jam packed. :) I was there at 1am once and it was a rat race. 3am to 5 am may be the only time it isn't.

The mom was nearby when he crawled into the machine. Another article said he was upset when they didn't win the prize, tossed a juice box across the floor, and then climbed into the machine while she was retrieving the box. They said the boy likes to climb and things and is mischievous. He couldn't have been too sick. He looked ok in the photos and was having fun in the machine.

I'm sure someone will say that if only she made him pick up the juicebox instead, he would have never gotten stuck in the machine. :)

Any machine that can be accessed that easily poses a problem. Whoever designed that machine should be to blame, not the child or mother.

Here are some pics of the boy and Mom. I've heard people on the web claim they are from the ghetto, are white trash, stupid, etc. They look clean cut and normal to me.

    Coin-op daycare?

If they offered coin-op nursing homes they could corner both ends of the lifespan.

  9. That is truly beautiful

they shoulda given the dumb bitch free quarters for having lost the keys too....

and if they owned the machine, no real loss for them huh?

you can't idiot proof everything. jeez. so a kid can crawl inside. redsigning the machine would be like outlawing scissors cause some idiot was running with them and tripped and stabbed hisself...

    Nah.

It would be easy and inexpensive to design it with a latch that doesn't allow anything to crawl in. There was a similar problem with bottled water vending machines. They started making them with covers so that birds and children couldn't touch the spout and contaminate it. Very easy fix. Coffee machines usually have covers too.

I assume the machine was designed that way. It may have just malfunctioned. Who knows. Wal-Mart did remove the machine from their store (after they got the kid out, that is. :))

its darwinism, if a kid is smart enough to kill hisself, then he will either not die or die....

Curiosity is independent of stupid or smart.

But cats have nine lives, right? So they don't have to be that careful. Like, Sylvester can get squashed 8 times going after the Tweety bird and still have one chance left. :)

No, not really. Except maybe Dick Cheney in his underground bunker. :)

(and his special pacemaker that defibrillates him automatically if his heart stops)
