Its Strong's and Young's *I* think don't hold me to it thought lol. But yeah I usely read out of the Amp and Parrell if something seems off to me.
Check out biblegateway.com. They have many versions of the bible online, with 2 translations from the ?original? text: one titled: Darby Translation and another titled: Young's Literal Translation.
Once again you apply your presumption as if it were a fact. You presume that the discussion is an "I have more knowledge' thing. It is not. For those with eyes top see, the thread reveals inconsistencies in the bible, yet you attempt to weave an egocentricity into it. Therein lies your juvenility without even considering the "my father is a policeman" childishness. You also presume that the list of books is a quantative "who's read more?" question. It is not. As stated, for those with eyes to see, it is there to show the basis from which the questions arose that inspired my personal search for truth. That you consistently project your presumptions into these writings is clear statement of woeful inadequacy on your part. Maybe you should be told to "grow up", then you may be taken seriously. Until such time ~ adeiu.
I suppose herein lies the basic contention Kharakov. Apologists are just as likely to suffer from the same blindness that they accuse non-believers of! Firslty, 18 swallows don't make a summer. There is a litany, yet you chose only some. That's OK if you you have a prejudice that you want to protect. But what if you really want to find the truth of the bible? That is what I did. The books that I listed are some that I read in my search for authenticity. Yet I too, was very much like yourself, 100% christian. But you (ie christians in general ~ not personalizing)_ will say that I "fell away", because it's a great christian cliche that conforms with the belief system, while simultaneously denigrating people such as myself into the "going to hell sinner" bracket. How funny it is that, having defended xtianity to the hilt for so long, and taking the time and making the effort to do exactly what Jesus said (and oddly enough what the religion never said to do), that my heart was indeed changed and I was led out of the religion and into the truth! (know the truth and the truth will set you free). Now you will find that very odd, as I do indeed myself, and often I find myself reviewing the miraculous transformation that has taken place over the past 5 years. But the religion is the problem, because it itself has fallen away, and the inconsistencies that are pasted prove that, desite any arguments about semantic pedanticisms and translations (of which it can be asked - how many more times will it purposely be translated until it reads like the religion wants it to be read?). That the KJV is (apparently) now openly decried as unreliable (if that kid who's been posting & whose father is a pastor is correct), and given that the KJV is the very basis of xtianity of the new world, how could it ever be said to be based upon evidential truth or reliably sourced when it was supposedly purposely written but inherently wrong? This without considering the dubious xtian beginnings that have been touched upon in other threads regarding the council of Nicea/Constantine etc etc which require faith over substantiation, belief over reality. Apologists are just as likely to suffer from the same blindness that they accuse non-believers of, but stubbornly refuse it's a distinct possibility (probability)!
Honestly.... I think these two verses coincide with eachother.... not refute eachother. Wouldn't you guys agree? I mean, we are not supposed to let the sun go down on our anger.... because wrath killeth the foolish man!! (that's how I interperate it anyhow) Have you ever actually taken the time to study the Bible out with the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Because if you did, you would realize that these "misconceptions" you speak of are truly taken out of context in one way or another.
no, moonjava... "for wrath killeth the foolish man": a person who allows anger to get the better of him will is only digging his own grave (ie. don't be angry). "let not the sun go down on your wrath": don't forget about how angry you are; be angry (ie. don't let the sun set on your anger). sophia.
no no no.... you've got it all wrong. Not letting the sun go down on your anger means this: Don't go to bed angry.
hmm... how do you figure? ... seriously, not letting the sun go down on your anger literally means, "don't let your anger come to an end" - the sun setting indicating the end (ie. of a day). i don't understand the other way 'round. search christian sites on bible study & meanings; they'll give you the same answer. (at least the ones i've checked..... ). peace, sophia
Well I'm sorry that it's not making sense to you.... but I can't really put it any clearer than that.... Don't let the sun go down on your anger = Don't let the day end with you still being angry. That's how it has always been interpreted at church. I never even thought about it meaning the other way... holding a grudge forever. If you take it into context.... and read the whole bible.... it teaches forgiveness. So the whole sun setting on anger thing... I just don't see how it could be interpreted any other way!
for those who know not The Word of GOD, well for those individuals certain translations can be very confusing and can keep them from seeking The Way To The Truth Of The Life. now Ephesians 4:26 could be clarified by using other scriptures and yet i believe the "amplified bible" translators made it very clear indeed: "when angry, do not sin; do not even let your wrath(your exasparation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down". whatever translation reads "don't let the sun go down on your anger" took liberties with a word used only once in scripture and most translations render that word as "wrath". "don't let the sun go down on your wrath". translations can be a problem and yet the greater problem is those who "say and do not" for because of such "The Way of Truth is evil spoken of". may there be those who "see" that you can not make, you can not create a "religious system". simply, The Messiah's teachings and His Life example revealed The Way To The Truth Of The Life. and simply that is, "Father, not my will, But THY Will Be Done"! and while someone has breath(spirit) there is hope that, that someone might "see" and embrace such simplicity. peace, even as war(spiritual and carnal) rages....... francisco http://ASpiritualJourney.Org
You know, I think that's the problem - intrepertation... If the bible is the word of god, why does everyone have diffrent intrepertations of it? Surely the word of god should be simple to understand... it's not. You know what, what a pile of crock.. maybe the selective parts of the bible that you read, the select few, might teach that, but I think you're white washing a lot of it. I'll give you one very good example now: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2 Kings 2:23-24;&version=9; And that is just ONE example of god forgetting about forgiving people.. want more? try here: http://www.evilbible.com/Murder.htm
Yes, a few verses here and there teach forgivenes, but as many also teach how to treat slaves, that women should not disagree with their husband as wll as inequality of the sexes in general, what punishment to mete out to transgressors...... So without some kind of mental gymnastics, the bible is ridiculous. I also agree that nightmarehippygirl makes a whole lot more sense regarding the "wrath/anger" posts. Francisco ~ Wrath and anger mean the same thing in any thesaurus or dictionary. So the mis-translation claim is 100% wrong.
from the "american heritage" dictionary: wrath = "Forceful, often vindictive anger." anger = "A strong feeling of displeasure or hostility." only checked one dictionary and that was enuf. as for your statement, well believe as you will. i have found that those such as you, those who would seek "profit" from their "experiences" in the sale of books, tapes, cd's,,etc,, well, i have found them to be of those who but "serve" time in the prison that is this world. sad for you:-( yet while there is breath(spirit) there is hope! peace, even as war(spiritual and carnal) rages....... francisco http://ASpiritualJourney.Org
it is because of spirits like the one that possesses you that causes many "christians" to believe they are in a rightful religious system. Faith, Hope, Love, Peace, Joy, Common Union, all that is Good can not be systematized. All that is GOOD is of The Spirit and must be received....... as for you? while there is breath(spirit) there is hope! peace, even as war(spiritual and carnal) rages....... francisco ASpiritualJourney.Org
The only thing people like Mr. King Moron Fuzzywuzzy do is make us stronger in our faith. Their little minds are of no concern to us.
Hebrew culture is very very male centered but keep in mind Jesus abolished those laws AND I'm gentile not hebrew . Also in american trans the two words are simliar. Find greek defenitions of the word and its compelty diffrent...for example *can't remeber which one* one is flaring of nostirles etc etc the other is a bitter poisin revenge type anger. Point being Anger..isn't a SIN its what you do with the anger...People will get angery its god given. But you have to get over it and not dwell on it. Also keep in mind Jesus wasn't for slavery *they talked about it because it was important in the time and if you notice in the new testeament you treated slaves well* as far as jesus and slaver. Remeber when peter cut off the mans ear? when jesus healed the ear with out a ring in it*marking slavery*the man was by all laws free. Slavery is diffrent then what it was 100 years ago. Then you and the option of going once you paid your debt in most cases, some people just didn't leave or couldn't due to the law.
