I love Dimmu's New Cd, Death Cult Armegeddon, but I'm not too fond of their older stuff. I really love the basist's voice, and his band (still around?) Borknagar isn't anything special, it's just that his singing is so epic...I love it. I like Death metal though, stuff like Opeth, Death, and I looooooove Meshuggah. I don't think meshuggah quite falls into Death metal, but they kick ass anyway.

eh, borknagar and changing singers every 2 albums, wtf is that about? theyre ok if you want that alice in wonderland mood, not too dark, but just weird and artsy... i used to be into black metal, but i got so tired of the horrible production, unintelligable vocals, and "look how dark we are" mood... i can only say good things about the obvious: emperor dimmu and cradle... my fav tho which is closest to BM but light years in its own style, is Bal-Sagoth... on the surface the "noise" resembles that of black metal, but the feel of them is fantasy futuristic adrenaline fuled synth thrash, unlike the normal goth hatred evil unmelodic look how fast we are norm... and some say theyre a lil black metal, (maybe the first 2 were halfway there), but i fukin adore Opeth... they are the deepest moodiest most beautifal amazing mind blowing band ever! i used to like mayhem and stuff like that, but that spewed so much anger and hatred out that i couldnt take it any more

Although i dont really listen to Black metal, i dont have a problem with it. There is something that fascinates me abt the world that surrounds black metal and i do enjoy reading abt black metal bands in kerrang every week! lol. I do love Arch Enemy, but i think they are maybe more death metal than black metal....having said that i am more of a Goth metal fan anyway and i love bands like Lacuna Coil, HIM, Nightwish, lullacry( notice the finnish trend??) etc etc. I also think that Norway and Finland are definitely producing the best metal around at the moment, and ,historically, they always have done!

    peace and love

black metal- bands trying to be harder and faster than each other. Give it up and concentrate on being original for gods sake.

I like some viking metal bands. Never checked Ensiferum really out though. Bands like Thyrfing, Falkenbach and other stuff that is linked to (melodic) black metal like that.

By the way: Cannibal corpse has nothing to do with black metal.

opeth will kill any black metal bands. opeth is the greatest black metal band ev4r.

yeah, in my opinion, i dont particularly like black metal... its too morbid and depressing... my friend listens to all sorts of it, and tries to get me into it, but i really dont want to be listening to some guy scream his head off about dismembering some one, backed by some horrible sounding guitar shredding (sure, its talented, but it sounds like shit.). sorry to be so opinionated, but ive heard one to many cradle of filth songs with backwards speaking to be happy enough to not want to kill you... DAMNIT, IVE GOT THE KINFE, STOP YELLING AT ME, NO, STOP IT, I DONT NEED IT, IVE DONE YOUR BIDDING, THE MAIL MAN IS DEAD, DEAD, YES, LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!1!one1!1!!ONE!11

by the way, im sure you guys can find
    A) bands with good instramentals and vocals, which sing about dismembering people
    B) bands that blare vocals and shred guitar about not quite as morbid messages... liminal or otherwise.

sorry about double posting if i do, but yeah, my friend was telling me about them...

anyways, to me, the heavier metal music is like sugar. its good for a while, but after that third bag of genaric pixie sticks, it starts to lose its appeal. i just dont see how people can produce so much negative or depressing artwork, and still be sane... and the people who listen to it constantly tend to freak me out a little... alot of the metal heads that i know are usually unsettlingly happy... the kind of happy that could snap for no reason when you fall asleep... the kind of happy that burries a knife in your spine... the kind of happy that puts your body and 2 cinderblocks in a black trash bag wrapped with chicken wire... the kind of happy that- err, yeah, you catch my drift. i dont sleep easily in his house. especially when i go to sleep listening to the Greatful Dead...

I can't stand when people who don't know anything about something still have to make a point.
Black metal isn't my favourite kind of music, and I don't listen as much to it as I used to, but I still like the image, music and most of the lyrics.
Of course there are black metal songs with lyrics about dismembering other people, but that's not what black metal is about, lyrics and bloody albumsleeves with subjects like this are more typical for grind or death metal (wich does not appeal to me, musically and the lyrics).

Real black metal these days is more about mysticism, mythology, astronomy, older north-european (since most black metalbands are from these part of the world) filosophy, conquest, historic battles and things like that, and of course the most typical black metal subject: paganity or even anti-christianity.
And there are a lot of inventive and renewing black metal bands with a much clearer sound (however it shall always sound dark and agressive, otherwise it isn't black metal).

Hey Moroccan, I'm fine. :) How are you doing?
Black magic rock sounds more appropriate for doom/stoner rock, imo. :p
