The movie looks intense. Natalie Portman is my favorite actress... and I've heard nothing but high praise for this film. Just downloaded, but now I'm seriously considering dumping my download and going to see it in the theater.
This movie was fucking awesome! Though I need to watch it again.. slightly interrupted by guests so i was only catching bits and pieces of the very end..
I was going to see it just because it has Mila Kunis and Ms. Portman in it, and after all the rave reviews I'm pretty excited to see it.
i just watched brian's link i thought it was good, but the first half was really annoying. i wanted to punch nina in the face so many times
Watch it then. lol And yeah.....she could definitely stand to gain a few pounds. A little too scrawny. Still hot though.
Hmm... the first time I saw the commercial it didn't show much more than Natalie Portman in a tutu and I mistook it for some gay chick drama.. but now my interest has been piqued.. going to see it asap..
Hope you're talking about Vincent Cassel. I mean, not to undercut Natalie Portman at all; but that guy was fucking amazing and the movie simply wouldn't've worked so beautifully without such a strong performance in that role. After seeing this in theaters, I can't imagine watching this movie without surround sound. The use of ambiance and background noise is something like I've never seen (or even considered) before. Aronofsky is a genius.
I just watched it and yes it is really fucking good! Best film I have seen this year. I'm not big on oscars, but if anyone deserves one next year it's Natalie Portman for that performance. No surprise to find out she started learning to dance from the age of 4. Really well directed as well, can you imagine how difficult it would have been to make this film? Fucking good job, absolutely flawless.
Watched it in the theater last week, really baked, and it was ridiculous. Definitely on the list of one of the most beautifully dark twisted movies I have ever seen, well worth the money to see it on the big screen, trust me that your computer screen will not cut it, just dont be cheap about it. The movie is one of the first movies of the industries year and already nominated for golden globes. Best actress, best director I believe as well.
You don’t have to know anything about the harsh world of classical ballet to get something out of this psychological thriller. The story line revolves around a production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, but it’s really about a young ballerina’s intense struggles with obsession, self-loathing, paranoia, sexual identity, control issues, and emotional stability. If you are familiar with Tchaikovsky’s real life story, you will notice strong parallels. Natalie Portman delivers an exceptional acting job, and the film’s direction reminds me of some of the better efforts of Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock. You see her life as her tortured mind experiences it. You will leave the theater with your stomach tied in knots and your emotions drained, after a surprise ending that Tchaikovsky would have loved. ...in a theater with a great sound system. I've heard the original score performed live by a full-sized symphony, and that performance didn't have any more power and impact than this movie soundtrack, cranked up on a killer sound system. I think it's great that a whole new generation of fans are discovering this classic piece of music.
I think I want to see it today, but for some reason I want to go at night, like 800pm or later. I just feel it would add to the freakiness. And I am the type of person who rarely leaves the house after dark haha. Yes. Even with friends. They stay at my apartment and we do "stuff."
