ha ha .. maybe Gordon Ramsey went there and had them get rid of the guy's favourite foods? geez ... why exeter? that seems really bizarre. what is the world coming to? first there was that girl receiving the strange purple liquid that blew away 3 houses, and now this?!?!? :eeps: and Nyika, i understand about it giving you the creeps ... after the whole 9/11 i still can't see/hear a plane without feeling a bit freaked out
according to local news this morning, it was to do with islamic extremism (in exeter?!?!). The guy whos being held in police custody has been named, hes a chap from plymouth who they believe has been converted to islam and used by radicals.....fortunatley they picked the most incompitent bomber ever as most of it appeared to have blown up in his face....literally.
seems like a combination of the two to me. from the bbc website: 'At a news conference yards from the restaurant, where the explosion happened just before 1300 BST on Thursday he said: "Our investigations so far indicate that Reilly, who has a history of mental illness, had adopted the Islamic faith. "We believe that despite his weak and vulnerable state he was preyed upon, radicalised and taken advantage of." '
A Terror attack in Devonshire Town of Exeter before this happened seemed rather remote. Forgive me. There was two, but it was made safe. One went off, the guy was caught,(Only one who was injured, hope the handcuffs dug into his wounds), I suppose it is all over.
i agree and we were all just as suprised something like this would happen here, the chap who planted the device was from plymouth, i would have thought that a much better target than exeter, it's a much bigger city. As the police seem to think he has been radicalised by extremists, it seems a strange choice of theres to pick someone who is mentally ill too go and plant bombs.....the potential for errors must have been fairly high in one form or another but there you go. being no expert at bomb planting myself i suppose it might make perfect sense.
I think the point is that his mental illness probably had a large part to play in the fact that he could be persuaded to do something like this. That's if we believe the police speculation ... that he was "radicalised by muslims" and the implication that he was made to do this in the name of Islamism is something they could not possibly know within hours of the incident. Sounds like irresponsible finger pointing to me, they should keep quiet about motives until they can make a case that will stand up in court.
