I think the reason it's left open is because it's a debatable topic, whether high-materialism and consumerism desensitizes people towards each other; even though the answer is obvious (as the thesis of the book is that it does) the doubt clears consumerism of any wrong-doing. The movie doesn't do as good of a job as satire, but is still a great and hilarious watch. The book is drier and more cerebral, but even more funny, and goes much deeper.
- it's a short story, but . . . The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges kind of scared me and messed with my head for a while - in cognitive dissonance kind of way. I think it's the only work of fiction that I've actually had reoccuring nightmares about.
Endurance by Jack Kilborn scared me. I used to stay in hotels a lot and always wondered if I was really safe.
Afraid - Jack Kilborn was pretty twisted haha along with his others. Anything Strephen King is usually pretty good lol
