When I get the train out of London most Friday nights there's always people drinking beer. Selfish sods have never offered me one though.
There is nothing worse than sitting next to a drunken guy on the tube. It is 500 degrees under the streets of London, it is jampacked and the distinct smell of urine is present. Then the guy wakes up and throws up his bowel contents all over your new jeans. Yes, I can see now why people don't approve of this new policy which Boris has implemented. I know a few upper class toffs aswell Boris was Mp of Henley. So this makes him a snob? I lived in Henley once and I encountered many people who came from Reading. Reading is anything but snobby.
Hmmm.Just about sums it up...( shakes head) You'll be telling me how wonderful Johnson is now , because he recruited a cleaner who went to a comprehensive school.
No. Even Johnson has his faults. sometimes his comical side is just boring. This may get in the way of his Mayorness. But his policies seem to be sound, even if the Union are getting their knickers in a twist and are sat in a cold dark neglected underground tunnel, slitting their arms as a result of policy number 1. Which is, Banning alchohol consumption on public transport. It isn't so much they haven't been consulted, it is that nobody likes Boris. Perhaps they are sceptical because he is different. If Ken had implemented the policy, there would be scenes of jubileeations. I reckon there would have been a Mardi gras and a luminaire of London, not unlike the concert in Docklands in September '87. Still I am as much sceptical as I am confident with our current Mayor. Everyone deserves a chance to breathe. Experience isn't everything. The wonderful thing about Humanity, it can develop.
the thing with politics in any "democracy" is, whoever you vote in, their going to fuck you over one way or another
The problem was , the office of Mayor was recreated as an expression of "democracy" ie the wishes of 6m people over a crony club of rich and connected toffs. When it was shown that 6m "ordinary" people could actually get things done ( like a successful Olympic bid) , the crony club decided it wanted to poison the whole thing. ie a silly hate campaign against a typical , honest genuine London who didnt have any illicit agenda. What do we get now? A talentless , priveliged upper class tosser who wouldnt have been considered intelligent enough to flip hamburgers , if it wasnt for that odious toffs rag , the Evening Standard , and hisfamily pulling strings. So its "welcome to 21st century London - where medieval standards of "meritocracy "prevail..
When Ken Livingstone was first elected, Labour was still winning seats and more votes than the tories who were going through a somewhat turbulent time of having leaders that were just plain nonentities (sp?) and as a result were trying to change to attract the types of voters that labour had. Now personally I feel that there is no real difference between Labour and the Conservatives, they both have annoying self indulgent leaders that are removed from the common folk-in-the-street and their policies are almost identical. Even when the Conservatives slate the government for the losses of data discs and the rises in crime and the war in Iraq, I bet if the Conservatives were in power they would have followed the same paths as Labour. The point is that Boris IS a toff - thats fine. Ken was hardly seen taking the tube to work everyday either now was he? I wouldn't picture either of them working in a factory or in a working class profession. I wouldn't dare give ken a reputation as a working class hero because he isn't one. His youth may have been spent in a conprehensive school, but the money he got for being mayor means he lives far away from the issues he is trying to tackle - crime - drugs etc. The role IS however to tackle those issues and any Mp or Mayor it is hoped WILL end up tackling them. For example: Both their policies are the same as any Mayor or Mp: * Reduce crime * Solve problems with Transport * Raise Taxes * Tackle Unemployment It is just they do things differently, their target is exactly the same. I personally voted green in my local elections, purely because it was the only party with a candidate in my area (who didn't live more then 10 miles away) so knew the area well and they knew the problems of where i live, the others didn't really seem to care about anything other than Linking us to London it seemed :talk2hand. Like i said earlier, Labour and Conservatives are the same and well the Lib Dems are hardly alive now. so why does it matter if Ken or Boris are mayor? Just an opinion.
There are alot of Anti Boris Johnsons. I think they watched Headcases on Itv1, then assumed that it was all real. It is hard to say this without cringing asthough I ate a sour ball from Frinks laboratory, some people love Ken Livingstone. They obviously don't drive
