Perhaps I'm just misunderstanding what you mean by personal experience then. I seem to think what you mean by personal experience in regards to mushrooms and LSD seems to be conscious or unconscious material that actually effected your life not just some random object exisiting out in society. I don't really see the personal aspect in some random object, to me him saying basketballs is about the equivalent of me saying they look like tampons in terms of significance.

Here is a good video to watch that explains the topic fairly well. Yes it is hot here lately

Thats because maybe you are trying to impose meaning and purpose to events that may in themselves not possess any meaning or symbolism. The vision of a jeweled basketball was meaningless until McKenna interpreted it and applied meaning to it.
I give meaning and voice to my visions, not the other way around. If I have seen a basketball and somewhere that memory is encoded in my brain, then who is to say that memory may not get incorporated into some visual phenomena. When I refer to personal experience that is an all encompassing idea. Everything that person has come into contact with, read about or just heard in passing is all part of their experience. I think a lot of visual material during a psychedelic experience is actually a random generation of mental process' into the visual cortex. We ascribe the meaning to what we see, outside of our interpretation they are meaningless.

When I had my major cactus experience last year, I had an "encounter" with an aspect of the experience that seemed to be "other-than-me" and a guide. But I also saw how it was only myself adopting a different role in my internal dialog. I completely could see ascribing that experience to the "spirit of the plant" or some such thing. But upon further reflection I recognized myself in every facet of it.

On a side note, it's supposed to cool down for the weekend.:)

Until you smoke DMT you'll never get it, and it may not even happen the first time you smoke DMT.

That was good, I've seen him before. I always like hearing experiences and reports that aren't repleat with cliches' and overly metaphorical, poetic language, at least when it comes to getting a better understanding of these substances.

I will say though that DMT is about the only substance that I haven't tried that I am very curious about.
So I do understand that my opinions are as one on the "outside" of DMT, but I am fairly well versed in psychedelics in general.
Guess I need to get some deemsters going don't I.:p

With that I will agree. :)
So I will suspend any further judgement on the topic until I get a chance to talk with these basketball machine elves. :p

Ha, Unlike Spiceycat I have never had the luck to interact with them as of yet. They simply did a 'dance' while transforming.

This an account from a trip report:

The previous day I had taken by far my biggest dose of N,N DMT. I took 4 successful large rips and got bonked on the head by its intensity while simultaneously nearly blacking out and puking. I remember one sliver of the experience which was these dancing lights' which normally are friendly and positive energy and stand out from the dmt palace turned a dark red and all simultaneously formed together into a whole gigantic foreboding fractalized face that seemed to be scolding me and my bravado for trying to dig so deep into their territory. After I came to I relaxed the rest of the afternoon and evening not even really trying to analyze the trip much as the rest of it was pretty much a blackout.

I guess I could consider that interacting, they never took me anywhere though I guess is what I meant to say.

GBL, correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't get the impression that you're trying to say these entities are "real" (though you might not be completely ruling out the possibility), just saying that it's very possible that DMT could elicit very unique effects.

writer, does not the great DPT elicit pretty unique effects? i haven't heard of another tryptamine that will induce crazy paranoia and fear at a low dose, and the only way to do it is to break through.

i agree with guerilla..i often see you recommend a high dose of LSD for example, because it is completely different than a low dose. so how can a completely different chemical not be capable of producing such visions? maybe?
you stress the fact that DMT and 4acodmt are very different chemicals, and that everything that ends in DMT, is quite different.

i know you don't see this as a personal attack or anything man. i'm just trying to get you to see things from a different perspective. you do the same for me, and it does not go without appreciation.:cheers2:

Yes you pretty much got it pork. I basically take the middle road here and acknowledge that dmt and salvia can produce these seemingly autonomous things but its nothing I would dare try to claim must actually exist in some hyperdimensional space. But as I'm sure you can vouch with the power that dmt and/or salvia can hit and how far out they take you can make things like extracting subjective meaning nearly impossible, especially if you can't recall the fact that you've even ingested a drug.

    Spicey Cat,
Is this http://www.vaporgenie.com/ what you're talking about? Have you used it and do you think it works better than, say, layering the spice between passiflora leaf in a regular pipe? Have you used it with changa?

    --------------

Lately I've been in touch with (as we used to say) how different people have different opinions, experiences, interpretations and what not. I was backpacking with a friend who is a relationships and sexuality therapist and he was talking about the importance of finding "a 3rd right answer." I thought it was cool and wrote it in the little notebook I carry. I was looking at it yesterday and thought of it again reading this thread.

can you elaborate a bit on what the "3rd right answer" is, situations you or your friend might use it in and how it may be relevant to this thread?

on a highly theoretical note, who's to say that there is actually any distinction between other-than-self and coming-from-self (although it's a contradiction in terms)?
