Along with the "massive package of economic sanctions" designed to "hobble" the Russian economy. - with NATO, and European agreement, it gives an opportunity to pick up the banner of the UK and charge forward (a la' Thatcher-1982) - only this time with justifible reason to use Military action

- But this is also an opportunity in another way.
If Financial penalties are imposed (and Russia have a lot of roubles to pounds) then it would also help the UK ecconomy, and blame Putin for the increase in the cost of living

This is all looking very serious indeed.
Putin wants Ukrain and will take it.
Next it will be Poland and Chechoslovacia and Romania and Slovakia and the rest who used to be under the Russian yoke.
Make no mistake.
This could lead to World War Three.
If there is a God.
Then heaven help us!

 

WW3 is more likely to be more Cyber or Chemical attack than 'Long range' Bombing and missile attacks
(though one has to be mindful that Russian subs are indeed a silent and lethal threat, and occupying Chenobyl is a tad worrying)
What is probably a better strategic option is the less obvious economic attack.
The combination of Europe and the USofA imposing 'en Bloc' sanctions, financial investigations and penalties,

 

One also has to remember that there is a civilian populas that are innocent
I'm mindful of the line/quote from the 1960's set film 'The Odessa file' - "Peoples are not evil, only individuals are evil"

 

What concerns me more than a Russian Bear, is the Chinese dragon watching (at this moment in time) - from the shadows.

Putin is somewhat predictable - Xi Jingping is astute, considered and resolute - with an infrastucture that is controlled with a strict code and/of discipline = Properly Powerful

Problem is that Putin is a rather deranged megalomaniac with some screws loose who will stop at NOTHING to have his way in respect of dominating Europe.

Zelenskyy tweeted Thursday that

"Russia treacherously attacked our state in the morning, as Nazi Germany did in 2#WW years. As of today, our countries are on different sides of world history."

The former prime minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk said the Russian invasion could spark a third world war.

Honcharuk said called Thursday's attacks a "critical moment" and claimed Putin only "recognizes power" and violence among the countries won't stop, The Independent reported. Honcharuk served as prime minister between 2019 and 2020.

“It could be the start of a third world war.
We should realize it, because Putin will not stop," Honcharuk said.
