Brown: Fly The Flag On Every Building

I wonder if prime minister brown has shares in flag making companys

 

you know jonny2mad, I often wonder, when you see foreign people on the news burning flags like the union jack or stars and stripes, like, where do they get the flags from. I reckon its all a cynical ploy.


Business is a bit flagging, lets get outraged about something so we can sell a load of flags, to burn. It at least ensures repeat custom.

Anyway, I think being proud of the bit of land where you were born is silly. I think flag flying is silly.

 

I used to have loads of really massive flags I bought in a job lot (I buy and sell things ) anyway I spent the day once putting them all out 50 years after d-day .
I think it was worthwhile because to me the flags represented my feelings for the people who fought against the nazis in world war two .

I should be able to but because of the stupidity of some people I would get abuse.
Like I said I did get some abuse from some racist idiots who thought the only people who could wear the flag were white people.
So i'd get it in the neck at both ends - one for being racist if I flew it outside my house.
If i wore it - for not being white enough.
How tragic is that.

I only really ask cuz i've heard your sentiments before but -
on the other hand i've also seen flags all over the place [inAmerica] for decades.
It is like ''where's wald when I watch US TV.
They just seem to everywhere in America no matter what decade your in - and who is president etc.

If that is not really the case and TV is not run by right-wing crackers -
Why ?.
Is Bush a rampant nationalist or something - I just wonder why would they ?.

Well then America seems to have the same problems Britain has - being judged for a symbol others can manipulate and interprete in many differing ways. Mixed in with a few money grabbing bastards.

i like the flag. red and blue are my favorite colors. i see them on any flag, i like them. but i like Old Glory. i even have one. i'm not a right winger. i'm not some hard core lockstepping christian conservative. people need to get that out of their heads. i just like it. it's a symbol of where i'm from and the culture that created me.


and i must confess, part of the desire to fly it is a big "fuck you" in the face of people who want to roll their eyes at it. can't help it.

so, from my perspective, this little "plan" of brown's is very entertaining for me. i like the "is that all you've got?!" sentiment.

 

oh, for pete's sake: one state has declared that all flags flown there MUST be american made. that seems pretty silly.

anyway, my mother in law's boyfriend has a mexican flag, an american flag, a raider's flag and a state of new mexico flag. i don't see what's offensive about that.

It's like that Danish cartoons thing - I wondered where they suddenly got all the Danish flags from, especially as they were meant to be boycotting all Danish goods. I wonder if every government has a secret supply of flags, which they bring out to burn every time a country does something they don't like? We could employ Nick Griffin to be Official Flag Maker and Distributer, give him a useful purpose in life.

 

How many do you actually see burnt though.
Even if it was 100 in one place - it is hardly a cottage industry.
They are usually burnt by radical groups in a very organised manner.
I'v not see many of the ''average jo'' spontaneously going out buying a flag and burning it.
Most of them that are buy the ''average jo'' look home made anyway -

Damnit, it's at times like these I wanna fly the Anarchist flag - black with the anarchy symbol (although that's sort of a contradiction in terms) in red in the middle.

Hey, I'm opposed to the government, but i don't like the idea of uncontrolled immigration.
