did i ever say perfect?? i actually think that i have put in my posts that there are problems and issues, as with most issues around the globe. i just do not lik eit when people comment on things when they have no real experience on such issues. i feel as i live in europe i can actually say whether it is a disaster, and i do not see such a disaster in which you talk about. the saem reason i do not feel i can comment on Bush and his policy in the US. i can comment on his foreign policy but as i do not live in the US i do not comment on his policy that affect just your country. peacex
currently i have just moved to a littel welsh town (Aber) in Wales for University. but for the past 19 years I have lived in Birmingham. i lived where whites were a minority in schools/colleges etc for mmy age group, and i ahve never come across much racial segregation, of course there will be some issues with some ignorant people who cannot look past skin colour and culture, and one thing i am proud of is that these people can hang on to their culture and still live happily in the UK. you may not be happy because you probably want us living happily singing the national anthem fot the queen. could the reason be for some racial segregation in the Uk be casused by attitudes such as yours?? think about it, maybe its your views which are causing the problems, not the fact someone is different culturally or has a different skin colour peacex
My country has been based on immigration since its inception. I think immigration is vital to America. I wish everyone who wants to be an American can be an American. I, however, dont agree with immigrants coming to a country and basically forming their own country within the borders. We make a sacrifice by accepting immigrants, and they should reciprocate that sacrifice by integrating.
Like not coming here to get a job at dunkin donuts and fuck up all my orders because they feel like they don't have to know the native language. I have no problem whatsoever with immigration, but when they refuse to learn english or learn anything for that matter, I just feel like they may have came to america for the wrong reasons, and there are probably loads others who would love to come here to do something a lot more productive with their lives. Owell, to each his own as long as they don't fuck up my day.
1. English is the most common language, not the native language. there is a difference. How many languages do you speak? one? Then you have know idea how fucking hard it is to learn a new language. two or more? Then you should already know how fucking hard it is to learn a new language. 2. Do you honestly think they wanted to be taking your order at dunkin donuts? 3. More productive? if they get a decent job they are taking away from "native" americans, but if they take the shit jobs no one else wants they're not being productive?
I love when people have a dick so far up their ass that they can't spit anything but loads of goo at others. I deleted my response to you cause you're just looking for an argument. Btw, "know" and "no" are two different things.
wow you take shit a little personally. wasn't being agressive, just a response to your post, chill out. adamantly into the subect on hand? didnt realize you were posting about shit you knew nothing about, my bad.
right, but learning and living are two different things. should they also give up their language, history and customs?
A little personally guy? "you don't fuckin know shit about how hard it is" blah blah, buddy YOU DON'T FUCKIN KNOW SHIT ABOUT ANYTHING I KNOW ABOUT, SO DON'T RESPOND TO PEOPLE LIKE THAT. And you're a prick dude "something I know nothing about" kid come down to the greater lowell, ma area and tell me about immigrants, especially brazilians. This ain't a subject I spend hours thinking about, cause it's not on my list of things to ponder. I give a short comment on what I see everyday that really bothers me and you start calling ignorance on me.
wtf!?!? forget your lithium this morning? "something I know nothing about" you're the one who said you were not adamant on the subject... be a child of immigrants, then talk to me about immigration. It pisses you off that the person taking your donut order doesnt speak english as well as you? And you call me a prick...
SORRY used kinda the wrong word, I am guilty of the same crime as you therefore making me an ass, yes you can slap me now for poor use of my 'native' language. I meant it's not like i go out and interview immigrants how they feel and write a thesis on it, it's just shit I see everyday, couldn't think of the right word I guess. Yea, you come at someone telling them how hard it is to learn a language, and use the word "fucking," you sound hostile, which really is the wrong way to respond since I was offering quite the reserved commentary.... LOL THEY DON'T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH BRO I AM NOT SAYING THEY HAVE AN ACCENT OR MISUSE A WORD NOW AND THEN! And yes you can call me a prick i guess cause it is a little aggrivating when you say "jelly" five times and you just get a bewildered look til you start pointing at the thing full of jelly yelling jelly, then they give you preserves or butter instead. Or when you say the word NO as an adjective, they don't follow, wtf, no in spanish is no. If they ain't going to make an effort to learn english, i doubt they're gonna make an effort to learn much of anything else. So I am an ultimate prick here cause I'd love to throw a piping hot coffee at the cashier next time I say jelly fifty times and get a bag full of butter.
2cesarwild. In considering your many posts on hipforums I have finally come to the conclusion that you're an arrogant ass. Thanks megara for explaining your stance on immigration, sorry if I misunderstood.
Arrogant? Yea ok dude, why don't you PM me some examples of arrogance on my part since there's no point in clogging this thread. Besides, why don't we cut through all the bs argument up there cause the main point is, if you're gonna work in america, you should know english fairly well. Well enough to understand what no means when it comes before a word at least, come on now. That's about as integrated as I say anybody should get, because you should never give up your real culture for american culture. Or america's lack of culture.
Quote, T. Roosevelt 1907: "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
My grandfather's family spoke Italian to friends and family. When they worked, when they went to the post office, or to a restaurant they spoke english. They didn't bitch, they didn't ask to be spoken to in Italian. They kept their customs, they kept their history. They became Americans. They were not Italian Americans, they were Americans first and foremost. The Italian flag was not their flag, it was the stars and stripes. No one is asking them to eat hamburgers and hotdogs instead of say enchilladas. I am asking them to be Americans not Mexicans who live in America. I do not think it is too much to ask the citizens of this country to be Americans and not Mexicans or Iranians or whatever origin they may be.
Agreed with above post. Come to America, speak english because that is what the majority speaks, but if you wanna speak Croatian (like some of my friends do) or Russian (like some of my friends do) or any other language, do so. It is ridiculous though to come from someplace else and except to be catered to. There are certain situations where in actuality you might have to speak more than one language, as in Florida for example. I was there a few months back and we went to a Chipotle-eque kinda place and the workers were bi-lingual. I ordered my tacos in English and then after me the guy started speaking fluent spanish to the very obviously Mexican lady behind me. I know how hard it is to learn a new language - not as hard as people make it seem. If you want to learn something and have a genuine interest in doing so, it's not hard. If you have to learn a language and you think "this is bullshit why can't people just learn to speak my language" then its gonna be real hard cuz you haven't got the right attitude. But since this thread was about flag burning, 30 pages ago....I would burn a flag if I felt strong enough about something. It's like flippin the bird - sure it's not really productive and you probably could have done something else, but it expresses something. You people talk about voting as if it happens monthly. And even if it did, just cuz you vote doesnt mean things will change. Legislation takes a long time to get passed, that's one of the problems with such large government (and why it took forever for aid to get to the south in the wake of Hurrican Katrina). If burning flags is stupid because you could be doing something else productive, then general protests are a bad idea too. Burning the flag is an effective form of expression because it's so offensive to so many people. And by the way, I would burn a flag not in protest. You ask why...because that is considered the only way to retire a flag. And one thing that gets me is the title "African American" that gets applied to any black person. We don't call people Italian Americans unless they themselves immigrated in their lifetime; if they were born in Italy and then moved to America. But blacks, no matter if their families have been in America since before America was even a country, are still considered African Americans. And its offensive to call black people black, yet its not offensive to call white people white? And to those of you preaching to us Americans about national pride and whatnot - it's rather hard to have national pride when your nation is comprised soley of people from other countries. What does it mean to "look" American? Other nationalities tend to have distinctive features, not all the time, but some of the time. Some of you guys come from countries that are well over 600 years old. Comparatively, America's just a little baby. With nothing disticly American, how we have a sense of pride? And then you have the fact that HALF of our country doesnt care enough about the nation to get out of their house or workplace and take a few minutes to punch a ballot so that they have a say in what happens in our coutnry. Is that something to be proud of? Some will say they don't have enough time to go vote because they can't leave their job - what kind of person runs a business that won't allow people to go vote to have a say over what the country does - the country that that business is BASED in? And don't even get me started on all the other bullshit with the "right to life" and ALL that other bullshit. Not to mention the hypocracy of politicians and EVERYONE in this goddamned country. Oh yeah, and then all you other forigners gotta weigh in on what YOU think WE should be doing with our country, tellin us what we should or should not be doing. So not only does the country not get along, when we finally do reach a decision, we're judged by the rest of the fucking WORLD on what we're doing. Frankly, I don't see how we get ridiculed about shit and then asked why we don't have any patriotism. Fuck that
yes. "Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul." - Mark Twain. you shouldn't be so closedminded, man. the men who fought for the flag fought for the right for it to be burned. anything but total freedom is not freedom at all.
