You may not be proud of the current administration, But you should still be proud of the history and what your anscestors did to defend that flag....

As for South Africa, no 2? surely not. We beat them in the last 2 series. They have no bowling attack. Pollock is ok but thats about it. Smith is a great batsman though.

England have a great bowling attack in Jones, Harmison, Flintoff and Hoggard. Better than the Australian attack.

As for other sport. World cup soccer is the biggest sport in the world.

You may think England has the best attack but no-one officially agrees and that's what matters. Best one day, test team. Best one day and test batsman (Ponting)in the world, best bowler (Lee), best fielder(Ponting).

 

How can Brett lee be the best bowler? Flintoff and Harmison are far better. The best fielder is actually Paul Collingwood. He is easily the best at catching a ball.

 

Gary, what is your position on Australia becoming a republic? In my opinion we should wipe the union jack off our flag and cast away the burden of England from our awful history.

And how exactly can you get rid of England from our history? The flag better never change. It stands for where we come from and what we are now and have always been. Proud to fight for our country and honoured to be Australian. People feel those things whenever they see our flag and if we changed it, the new flag would mean nothing. Just a piece of material. How long have we had to love our current flag? Forever. I am not going to feel proud of a new flag that was never fought for, been flown with pride, meant as an important symbol of our country and us. Aren't you proud of our country, it's history? Our flag symbolises that. If you want to get rid of it, you want to forget what it means in history then fine. But a lof of soldiers and soldiers familes as well as general people would spit in your face.

 

What that flag is a symbol of, is of the forgotten history of the true people ofAustralia.
All those Aboriginals who died for ungrateful "patriotic" red necks to take their home, history and way of life from them should spit in the face of anyone who thinks a flag is more than another reason to create separation between the nation of human beings.

I'm sorry trickster i do love you, but I think one of the best ways for Australia to finally stand on its two feet and stop sucking titties 1 and 2 (England and the US) is to cut our ties with the monarcy. This is an innovative, young and progressive nation, but we're quickly turning into a bland lifeless nunnery with no original ideas at all. We need to get some fresh pride.

Tricky, I am thinking about the soldiers, thats a really good point, and i dont really see a way around it, they really love england. But i think we need to think about the youth too.

 

I don't want a flag that are just the aboriginal colours. Why the hell should we pay for mistakes made by english jerks we never knew or even related to.

An aboriginal flag represents them and them only. What about us that are white? Our flag is Australian, it represents us all. The Southern Cross for instance? Do you know the definiton of being racist? It works both ways you know. I find it very interesting watching those aboriginals burn the Aussie flag. If i had burnt their flag i would've been called a racist. I'm so sick of hearing how the "white people" are the ones putting a separation bewteen all of us. All i see is aboriginals saying they want their own flag and to not be a part of the whites.
I also know, through my teachers aide work at schools, that so many aboriginal adults and children love our flag and know it represents us all. Look, it's this simple. We have an Australian flag, it represents Australians. Meaning, Aboriginal, white, greek heritage, italian, french, chinese.

 

Yes, thats all well and good but did you actually look a this flag?


Since when did the colour blue or the southern cross have anything to do with the Aboriginal flag? For all i care we can scrap the idea and just have the southern cross and the federal star. Whats important is Australia is Australia and not some offshoot colony. I love this place, but its time we set things in motion for the future.

Oh and hell yeah the whites shouldn't take the blame for separations between Aboriginals and other cultures. But where was the reconciliation for almost 100 years of forced colonisation, genocide and manipulation???..our prime minister is a racist prude, sometimes i am not surprised the indigenous population gets angry.

 

i think australia should have a new flag if that is what is wanted amognst the population. i wish i could remove the british flag from my states as well

but i am stuck with our english history. and to answer the orignial question, i wouldn't burn our flag, but i am not for making a law making it illegal. i am not patriotic one bit, i see no reason to be. woooh sport, so what, i am not a big fan of sport. i see the worlds population as one, i prefer a world flag to a states flag, but i know that probably isn't possible at the present time.

why thank you, i think that patriotism is the first step towards disliking another state or nation. and it does seperate the world. a flag for humanity would be awesome, all the people who want this flag should desgin one, and be proud of it and use it, and maybe the world will eventually catch up.
