Personally I wouldn't, just because my grandfather is a WWII vet. Even though I don't like the thought of my grandfather participating in a war, I still couldn't burn something that's laying next to my grandfather's heart in his grave. Other than that, though, I entirely support people's rights to burn the flag. I think the country is going down in flames, anyhow. Sorry if I've offended anybody.
Both my grandpa's fought in World War 2,and I don't think they'd like me doing that...shit I wouldn't do it anyways.I got to much respect for those who serve/have served and put their lifes on the line for me.
You just said you don't support your country and you are human and not English and you find no need to laugh at others cultures. Well my culture is to support my country and you have just demeaned that. There is nothing wrong in a friendly exchange of rivalry and I don't think Aussies mind when we laugh at the ashes in the summer because they have had plenties of years of laughing at us and probably will again in about 12 months time. Its all friendly banter. Laughing at onion wearing frogs with berets and stripy shirts. Is that really racist. If it is then I am racist. Not for a second do I believe all french people wear these outfits but neither do I as an Englishman cause trouble at football matches when I am abroad. Its not personal. I think if this sort of thing were really racist then film companies would steer away from this stereotyping in spoof movies. They don't because I really don't think people get offended by it. Do French people really get offended being called a frog? If so should I be offended for being called a pom by the Aussies or Limey by the yanks. I don't think so, its harmless. Political correctness goes mad sometimes and is often touted by people with no personality. As for competitiveness I think we all are. It might not be at sport but just being on this forum shows some sort of competitive streak trying to get our views aired. I'm extremely competitive. I love it when I win but I'm gracious when I lose. Games are meant to be competitive otherwise there is no point playing them. I'm pissed with the house of lords for the fox thing thats all. They are useful in the sense they can stop a government dominating politics like when the Labour party had huge control of this country. The labour party could have virtually pushed any law they wanted through because of their seat majority. Now the house of commons is a bit more balanced again since the last election. The house of lords can stop stupid laws getting through but it does mean that the elected government doesn't have full control. I think this is probably wrong as well. So you can either go with total support of the elected government and have any law pushed through (look at America and George Bush, hardly popular is he). Or you can go half and half whereby the majority of laws the elected government comes up with get pushed through but with a veto from the house of lords. Not really a dictatorship is it.
is is just a bit of fun, speak to some really patriotic people, and see the total arragance and ignorance of the rest of the world. and before you start a discussion on semantics, look at what was said, been proud of a nation, is different to a culture, because especially in the Uk there is not just one thing that is different to the rest of the world. there is nothing wrong with banter, if its meant in jest, however there are a lot of Britains who really do have a problem with other nations. i don't get into these 'friendly' discussions of stereotypes of nations, because 1. i don't feel that i am part of a culture group such as the english, i don't match other so called generalizations of people living in this country, i don't like football or cricket, i don't go down the pub, i don't blindly love the queen because i was told too, 2. i love not seperating things into groups, i love us as one, may seem all trippy to you and idealist but this is a hippy forum, what do you expect by definition, stereotyping and laughing at another nations generalizations is racist, you have judged a group of people like people judge somebody for their skin colour, whether in jest or not, a judgemental image came to your head you changed your tone about the Lords, was it because there was an inconstintancy with your arguament, the Lords in undemocratic, and we should have two elected houses, like in many democaracies, before we make claims about spreading democracy. you do realise that our PM is more powerful in local politics then the president, if the two houses are different, then you can't push hardly any bill through or get your judges into power. and secondly the lords cannot stop any law, there is a by-pass system in place, if a law is suggested three times, it by-passes the Lords. simple, huh, great system, so yeah actually it is an elected dictatorship, so much for GREAT britain peacex
Its Hasselhoff!!!! Germans love him you know. He has a big music career over there. Apparently I'm racist. Oh well. I live in Scotland and I get away with calling my friends porridge wogs. They call me English Wanker. I think if it was seriously racist I might get a little more abuse than I get which is none at all. I'm not even going to bother defending myself about the race thing. Ask my friend chalky if I'm racist (joke!!!!). I don't like the Royal Family because I was told to either. I just happen to think they are quaint. What a lovely load of howling mad toffs they are. You have to love them. Lets take Prince Phillip. What a guy!!! Who else could get away with the things he does? Such as when visiting a theatre and finding dodgy electrics he said someone from India must have done it. I think people use the race card a bit too much. In this country now if two people went for the same job and one was white and one was black and they had the exact same credentials the black person gets the job everytime because the company involved gets a certain tax allowance for employing so many ethnic minorities and so many disabled people. Its the same with the whole Gay thing as well. If I owned nightclub and refused someone entry because they were gay there would be a double page spread in the News of the world (scummy newspaper). I went to a gay club after an Alice Cooper concert (it was the only thing open) and I was refused entry because I wasn't gay.
dude you were the one kissing him goodnight. just cuz you edit doesn't mean it didn't happen. sorry gary.newelluk but you talk more shit than any poster i have ever read. and for that, i love you.
But gary is sexy, they probably denied him entry from the mars bar because all the boys would have looked at him and gotten incredibly aroused, soon enough the whole thing turning into a hedonistic shagfest
No I won't have that.... theres at least one guy that talks more shit than me. What about the guy that put about homosexuals ruining the world. I just happen to be further right than most conservatives. I'm a nationalist and like the Royal Family. I happen to have a very tough stance against crime (probably the same stance as mid 1500s Britain). I don't like the current war but can understand why the soldiers are still there and don't believe in the whole oil conspiracy theory bit. I don't like the islamic terrorists and anything they stand for and will never believe a word they say until they put their guns down. My ideal place to live would be that small country town in Doc Hollywood or as Arthur Dent in Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy when they land on Earth 2.
I'd burn my (u.s) flag in a second. It stands for everything I am against. No, it doesn't stand for your grandfather who fought in this war, or your brother who fought in that war, it stands for a bastard greedy materialistic society built on bullshit that continually fucks me as the days pass. I'd gladly burn the shit, i'd light it with a big fat spliff and be sure to spit a fat loogie on the firey threads as they burn.
Maybe we should start making our flags from natural fibres so that when our countries fall to shit we can use them to fertilise our gardens
can i ask, because i really hope and think it may be. but are you trying to wind us up. actually do not beleve that you actually believe what yo ahve just wrtten, if so.... what the fuck dude!! look at the webste you are n, if you believe these thngs, you are only here to cause trouble really. i am for free speech and differences of opinion so please hang around, but please debate with real reasoning, not i jst like the royal family because they are quaint, this politics. peacex
Gary is a bit of a flip flopper - he has about a hundred conflicting ideas and hes always swapping between being funny and serious. Don't worry about it
I actually started off in the music section of this site which is one thing in life I am really interested in. I got bored of the lack of posts there so started hunting down the rest of the site. I'm not really a hippie and like Lying in a field says "I have about a hundred conflicting ideas". But they are my own ideas. I don't just go with what other people tell me, I make up my own mind whether I am right or wrong. I'm not sure what being a hippy entails but 1. I have never smoked weed, 2. I am not particularly liberal, 3. I do like the whole naturism idea thing (see other forums on here) as long as I don't have to do it, 4. For someone who is not a hippy I spend a considerable amount of time in a field full of tents watching live bands and chilling with a pint of Guinness. As for the Royal Family I have no reason not to like them so what difference does it make whether I like them or not. Is that really so controversial. Millions of us do like them.
If you place your Ideals in flag then the flag should be burnt. So you'll realize your Ideals will live with out metrialistic atchments.
For me personally, I don't really see a point in burning or not burning the flag. I wouldn't look up or down if someone I knew did that simply because it's not something I would condem. People are entitled to their opinions and shit so if someone thinks that Canada sucks so bad that they have to burn the flag, then good for them, I don't really give a rats ass. It really is just a piece of fabric, a symbol. It's like, if someone in Canada were to tear up a maple leaf, kill a beaver, etc. nobody would get up in arms like if they were to burn the flag, even though those are also symbols of our nation. And in a way I agree with brothwood's opinion on how we should be more proud of our cultures than our nations (I think that's what he meant...the bit about stereotyping English culture when England is comprised of many different cultures...well, thats what I got out of it) and there should be less division in the world. A good question to ask would be, would you ever burn someone else's flag because you don't agree with whatever it is about them? Why/Why not?
