You make some good points and interesting story, it doesn't seem like feelings on the issue are weighted equally. I feel this Jenner story is little more than a highlight of the excesses of materialism. (S)he's got enough plastic in the face and body to feed a few impoverished cities for about a month and including the money being made off this coverage, could likely feed a few countries. Jenner's age makes it seem almost contrived in a sense to me too, he lived his entire working life as a man and then in the twilight of life decides to do this? weird stuff to me. I guess the only point of interest I can draw from this, as I don't really Keep up with the Kardashians so to speak, is will a story such as this establish a precedent to allow for other kind of operations in the future? Perhaps not the dolphinplasty of Sleepy Cat's amusing image but in a similar vein, maybe pigment procedure to change race piggybacking of 6-eyed Shaman's ideas or how about a melding with nanotechnology or robotics into a new cybernetic mental paradigm for people, simply if people feel they need it? Is there a reason radical transformations like this would only be limited to gender? Where does we draw the line?
Uh, this is the transgender/transexual forum? So not really sure why you feel the need to drag feeding the hungry and impoverished into this? Again, is this just resentment that Caitlyn has more money than you do? That is a whole other issue. Most trans people are middle class (or worse). So why condemn and mock them? I admire Caitlyn for helping to start a discussion about the trans issue, which has been a long time coming. I don't resent her for having tons more money than I do. And I also never watched the reality show so many are quick to use as an excuse to mock her. The bottom line is that a door has been opened, and why not try to enter a room that has never been fully explored before? There are all kinds of people in this world. It's not simply straight and gay. There's a lot more in between that. Just my 2 cents. Oh, and let's not leave out Lou Reed's insightful take on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsVLIiI8Vfo
I specified "this Jenner story" referring to this isolated story that the thread is about. Do you think that no transgender people feel that this story feels slightly contrived or at least that this story is a bit excessive? It seems you are painting all transgenders with a broad brush, that they are inherently so self indulgent that they can't see issues in the world beyond fixing their appearance. I do not think this is the case nor do I think this story represents the transgender community as a whole and a wide range of individual behaviors, actions and ideas have been openly discussed and criticized on this forum, even in-group individuals to hippies, such as Timothy Leary, so I don't see Jenner as being above reproach on discussion. If you feel (s)he is, that really speaks to 6-eyed Shaman's points. I don't resent Jenner for having more money than I do anymore than I resent Taylor Swift or Mark Zuckerberg for having more money than I do, Which is not really a resentement at all, eventhough I wouldn't mind that kind of money. Regardless, A reality tv star on the cover of a magazine seems like the epitome of materialism.. Does it not?
WTH? I stated very clearly that I admired Caitlyn for going public w/her decision to identify as trans, and how I feel this will open a door that has been slammed shut way too long. It's not all just about surface. It's about the person she has kept hidden inside, and now she's introducing herself to the world. She explained her reasons (quite honestly) during the Diane Sawyer interview. Have you seen that?
Interesting. I don't either, but I found the interview on YouTube the day after it was on TV. And I also don't follow or idolize Reality TV stars. Curiouser and curiouser... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANNqr-vcx0
OK, Jenner was taking female hormones long before he ever knew the Kardashian name......His interview explains this. I do not think it is a sudden idea of his. He said he knew since a child.....but needed to prove to everyone and himself he was male...hence the Olympics.....The interview explains all of this. He has the issues of his daughters and wanted to wait until they were old enough to understand.....He lived for everyone else.....He was not sure up until the last minute if it was the right decision, so i do not think this is a publicity stunt and to make loads of more money.... and we still do not know if he will go the whole distance...getting his banana removed. he said he does not know yet....Let us wait and see before we jump the gun on this entire story. This is all scary for him/her, too.....She is a work in progress..... I think he wants the entire gender operation change.... we never know why someone does what they do....but I try to believe them....until I feel I just cannot anymore. and I do like some reality TV stars....I love the little people(dwarfs).... I consider them friends.
Yeah, that's what I got from watching the interview. Some people say it's weird that she waited until she was 65 to come out as trans? I think not. She was putting her family first, and coming out so late in life only proves how genuine and caring a person she really is. Despite her harshest critics
I know the syndrome living life for other people very well....and I am not talking gender about myself but other things...so i fully understand it and recognize it as true in someone else....when they say so....and I hear the entire story....cannot be made up....cannot..... I think she still is to some extent, too....for her kids now. Some reacted very much hurt at first...i do not know how they all are now...from what i gather...are getting used to it, so maybe this transformation has to be done in small doses for them.....
I saw a documentary of some weird transformations...here was one of them...another was one into a lizard...even had their tongue reshaped into a fork....etc... I hear someday we will be able to have micro chips into our brains with all of the information right to our brain...yes, there will come a day....knowledge will be spoonfed..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKRr94ssnQo
it was just for funzzie, it was more like how weird can we dress and if anyone will take notice. nobody really noticed much, cause its a freak show there every day.. it was fun.. here is some talk about the jenners on the cd board .. http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?227945-Bruce-Jenner-caused-me-turmoil http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?228346-Is-this-the-new-Jenneration http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?224239-Bruce-Jenner-again while most are supportive, you can sense the jealousy when it comes to the expense of tranformation. Its nice they can afford it..
Yeah, it's amazing how sometimes you can drive 15 miles in America and almost be like in a different country. Ultimate open mindedness to ultimate conformity.
I know, right? The ironic thing about the media hype over all this is that they've officially turned this into a genuine freak show starring Bruce Jenner
I can appreciate if this was like, just some random person on a life journey, but it seems it's a celebrity. An Unrelatable celebrity. I can't sit here and appreciate that anyone, even in some trans formation, has anything in common with a filthy rich celebrity. At the end of the day, celebrity can do what they want it may be socially accepted for a celebrity to come out gay or trans, but this isn't what happens with the common person in the streets. So it pisses me off. Much like Robin Williams with depression. Like now, now we can take it seriously because it effected the life of a celebrity which in turn, somehow, seems to effect the lives of 90% of people in which said celebrity didn't even know existed. Every time I see celebrity talk, the following Motörhead lyrics come to my mind.. I was reading some magazine It was written for human beings Can't believe all the stuff I read Human trash for the human head You humans shouldn't be so proud And you humans shouldn't talk so loud And you humans shouldn't stay too smart It's enough to break my human heart Shut up I'm talking to you It's on television so it must be true And I will tell you somerhing else Your values aren't worth a dime Human rights just human crime I know what the blind man sees On your feet or on your knees!
Caitlyn Jenner. Why are you so freaked out by trans folks? Can't even say her name? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq9oR9x171w
