have been getting intenses migranes more frequently now that I am preggo. Mostly I have suffered but I did take Tyleonol, night time is great if you have no engagements! I am also getting wicked constipated and gas pains so bad I can't stand. At night I cannot sleep. I have been watching what I eat and taking flax seed but last two days have sucked. I am pooping like once a week WTF. I am eating fresh fruits, veggies lots of water and lots of walking to help move things along. I this normal?
Vicodin is truly a very good pain reliever, considering how mild it really is. It helped me through a tough time in life.
Maggiesugar... yes, my migraines have backed off considerably since I was a kid. I used to use Ergostat - an ergot/caffeine dirivitive for them, but developed a sensitivity to something in it years ago. Somehow my pregnancies have changed my body, and my migraines are now a fraction of the intense horrors they used to be. That I know of, ergostat is probably NOT safe for during pregnancies... but I have not used it since I was 17 & would not know for sure. Vicodin can be used for migraines??? Hmmmmm... I will have to keep that in mind, if they return to their old ugly ways. It is one of the few drugs that I have not reacted to over the years. love, mom
Excedrine Migraine....2 every 3 or 4 hours. I had a prescription for....poop, I can't think of the name, but ran out of insurance. However, I called my doc after I read this post and she told me to come in and we'll see about getting some VICODIN. Thank you for that suggestion! I also looked into the Chiropractors in practice in this area....they're all pretty quack-y. So, my mom is taking me to Lexington sometime within the next day or so to look into one up there.
this is so true. i can't tell you how much i can get done on some pain relievers. i don't get knocked out like most people. i take a lortab or vicodin or tylenol 3, and it's SO DAMNED NEAT to not hurt everywhere that i'm just all over the place. i ache in every portion of my body. in the morning my ankles are so tight and sore that i can barely come down the stairs, i can hardly sit up for the pain in my back. every single day i wake up my head is killing me. my ARMS hurt. WTF? i don't understand it. it's frustrating. but i learned to deal with it. now it's just such a common thing that i almost don't notice it anymore until it's gone, like someone who lives next to a freeway getting used to all the noise.
I'm the same way, most of the time, and just learned to deal with it. I'm uninsured, so it's not like there's anything I can do anyway. I usually have friends around who can give me a LorTab here and there when it's REALLY neccessary. But honestly, I don't even do that very much anymore - getting rid of the pain is just a tease, since I know it always comes back... In any case, MoonFlower, I'm glad it's working out for you and you won't have to suffer through your pregnancy!
i'm insured, but i'm leery of taking much for it. and WHO feels comfortable asking for stuff, anyway? i know i don't. i can just FEEL the judgement coming my way. so fuck it. i've tried just about everything physical i dan do. i've been to yoga, massage, physcial therapy, chiropractors. i give up. that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right?
Sadly, a lot of doctors do make judgements on patients who need pain killers. I have a great neurologist. He doesn't make judgements. My insurance company, however, after covering my Vicoprofen in large quantities for SEVEN years is giving me a hard time again. Assholes. I am so glad you are getting releif. Pregnancy made my migraines worse. I was "Intractable" during my last pregnany, had to take Decadron (a corticosteroid) two or three times while I was pregnant. Meg, take the Vicodin. Some people get sleepy from it, others dont. I don't. Usually, when you are in a lot of pain, the pain "eats up" the side effects. Yes, hsm, ergostat and ergomar are NOT OK during pregnancy. Ergot causes uterine contractions, and can cause labor or miscarraige. Not to mention the horrible side effects most people get on this drug. The smell of those little "mint" things you would put under your tongue was enough to set me heaving. YUCK. For most patients who don't take narcotics, (or whose doctor won't let them have the blessed releif they allow) the triptans, Imitrex, Zomig, Maxalt ect have replaced the ergots. Triptans are not for people with high Blood Pressure or circulation problems or heart problems. I found a mix of Vicodin and Fioracet a good thing for the moderate pain. Some peopel need Oxycodone when the pain gets too bad, or even morphine.
Even though it can be taken safely in pregnancy, be careful with Vicodin - narcotics like this ca cause constipation, so they should at least be taken with lots of water and whatever other precaution you feel is necessary. It just occured to me that that was the other problem, and I wouldn't want to make it worse!
AHaha. Yes. I've gotten my constipation taken care of finally. I hope my Vicodin doesn't mess with that. *crosses fingers*
Eat some raisins or prune juice a few hours after the medication. Or some really fiberful food. I don't get constipated from Vicodin, but Codiene stops me up, and then I get the runs. Go figure. Vicodin works better, anyway. Save it for those that seem to be the worse. but don't wait TOO LONG before taking it. It is shown that you use less medication when you treat the pain right away, instead of playing catch up. A lot of migraine sufferers can tell from the outset if it is gonna be a mild one (reletively) or a headbanging one. Heal sister.
Thanks for the advice. Ya, I had a pretty mild migraine the other day. I didn't feel the need to take any meds for it, just a hot bubble bath and a nap was all it took to heal the pain.
