But those "unlimited points of view" aren't passing through unfiltered. Somebody still controls what goes out for the world to see. Often a single person controls the content for hundreds or thousands of people.
well a new constitution wouldn't be fixing it, that would be replacing it. perhaps that's a quibble over terms. i don't think the voice of money is the voice of democracy. the list of things that are wrong would fill volumes. the problem with government though, is perhaps a symptom, of a cultural problem. the romance of aggressiveness is at the root of it. we make the excuse of calling that freedom, when it really isn't.
the whole theory of representation is questionable at best. especially when you have a voting base as large as we have. there's no way for enough people to know enough about candidates for it to be anything more then a beauty contest. people need more, not less, direct involvement in issues themselves, if we want to call it anything resembling a democracy. if we want power to reside with the people, this needs to be done at the most local level. every village and neighborhood going its own way, by its own consensus. and then the other levels to provide coordination and comunication between them. you just really don't have a democratic process without inverting the pyramid like that. the idea that choosing between a bunch of names of people, is any kind of real choice at all, this doesn't even make sense.
Post? I've had postings edited for years. The most common edit is deletion or just being banned from the place. It's rare I have anyone actually alter content. Usually if I say something people don't like, they call me on it. But some who have the capability will essentially bring a weapon to the discussion and try their best to make it seem like I was never there. Thankfully I haven't seen that sort of thing on Hip Forums except when I posted where I wasn't allowed. After all, I'm the most hated demographic in America now!!! I never post links to Spam, porn or Voodoo sites and I do my best to avoid getting personal with people in forums, unless I actually do know them somewhat. I get bored in a forum where people bicker about each other instead of staying on topic. Which reminds me...... A new constitution is certainly worth considering, but what would we make different? And how would it fix the old problems when we are still apparently grappling with slavery! I admit I find the US political system so confounding that I refuse to pick a party. I see assholes in every party, liars as well. It seems to me that picking a "team" when we are talking about the future of our nation, is a bad idea. The nation either needs concise leadership without political infighting, or the nation should be divided into more manageable sections based on population. One thing I am certain of though is that we can't just switch off the constitution one day and switch on a new one the next. A proper vetting for a new constitution should take years, a decade perhaps. And it can't be driven by money or special interests. Right there is where it begins to break down. I light a black candle daily for the next year or so. It affords me more protection than I think I will see from the government.
In general something written in the NY Times, Washington Post or presented on Fox or CNN is going to get a lot more coverage than something written here or on someone’s personal blog. Oh yes something can occasionally go viral, but really when I post here I don’t kid myself that I’ve got the worlds ear hell not everyone in this thread will read what I’ve said. A lot of money is and has been spent pumping out wealth’s propaganda, think tanks and corporations have paid for ‘experts’ and professors on speed dial with the time to do the research that seems to back up whatever has been decided to be said. Just look at the manmade climate change ‘debate’ wealthy interests have been stalling and muddying the waters for years.
Ah that is the question. So where to begin well wouldn’t we first try and catalogue and then understand the problems? Money in politics and the two party State are two that often come up. Let’s take one Why are campaigns so expensive - mainly two reasons their length and TV advertising Solution - limit the campaign length and stop paid for political advertising. Problem – the supreme court definition of ‘freedom of speech’.
