...possibly both. If the person giving the information believes it than them telling it can't be a lie unless the person giving it knows it is a lie. If the person giving the information honestly believes it, It can't be a lie, can it?
I guess that depends on how delusional they are. I know a couple of compulsive liars and I think they honestly believe their own lies. They may know its not the truth but they can convince themselves that it is. In their own mind the lie becomes their truth. How does that factor into things? I think simply not knowing the facts and giving misinformation isn't really lying. It's just not being knowledgeable. I think its all about intent. If someone knowingly gives misinformation then its a lie.
Ah I see now, you are saying the facts aren't objective by definition either because we interprete them differently. Ok. I read it wrong and assumed you were repeating what I said except worded it differently Yes, if we would get all philosophical we could indeed argue wether the grass is in fact green
Some people lie because they know the truth hurts and would prefer not to tell the truth about certain things..
I have fairly flat facial affect and sometimes avoid eye contact due to social anxiety, so I don't think facial cues are reliable tells if someone is lying. I sometimes get "Are you serious?" Type questions to very ordinary facts such as explaining work protocols and stuff. I am pretty bad at spotting lying myself.
I am not good at spotting a lie but I don't want to live my life in a cloud of suspicion either so I'm usually not looking for the signs.
I couldn't lie to save my life. I don't think I am good at catching if other people lie either unless they are a politician.
I'm pretty good at spotting bullshit. Can't pinpoint what the bullshit is, but it's fairly obvious if it's there.. people tend enter a different character when they're talking crap. Can't lie for shit myself, though.
If you know somebody is a compulsive liar it is not that difficult to spot when they are lying. I guess I thought we were talking about regular people who you do not really know. How do you know when they are not being honest. If more than one person is saying they are wrong and they are saying: ' well, we are all free to have our own opinions' then I kinda know that person is beyond reason. No. See above.
