In that case be glad you do not live in the Netherlands. Lots of jobs require you to speak Dutch, English, German and sometimes French and/or Spanish. Even in my very simple temporary job I have to speak 3 languages. Which is cool to me, because now I can practise them instead of forgetting them.
After travelling about a year and a half and not speaking much Dutch I even forgot a bit of my own language. It took me some weeks to get it all back. So it is very easy to forget a language when you do not practise, especially if it is not your first. Regretfully, I forgot most of my French too.
yeah. i pick it back up pretty quickly when i hear it on tv or on the radio and listen for a while. but not quickly enough.
Canada is awsome. but there are too many foreign people. They dont speak english and they get mad when you say anything remotley bad about their country. Last year at my school there was a "take your kid to work day" and then the day after we had to do a presentation of what you learned. Well a pakistani kid whent up and I shouted "what's you learn? How to drive a taxi?" He flipped out and cried while the whole class almost died laughing. Then he whent on and did his report...His dad owned a corner store, thats when my friend shouted out "Big surprise!" I know it was rude but it was funny.
Racism isn't funny. Even if you're tweenage friends cheer you on. I have a very low opinion of you. I hope you try and educate yourself.
And they always bitch. "Nobody takes me seriously even though I have important ideas that nobodys ever heard before. Like these immigrants need to geeet out."
If you treat people like that on a daily basis, get ready for an adulthood of bad karma. It might not be pretty.
I refuse to read 23 pages of silliness. Every western nation is having this problem. All of them. Several of you have said that we need to accomodate, that America (and Canada) are nations of immigrants. Australia is a nation of immigrants founded as a penal colony (as was the southern US) and they speak English. Of course, no one can understand them either...
http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html I'm glad to see Canada taking human rights into account when deciding their policy on immigration, rather than with a head full of greed. *pats Canada on the back* PS I put the link to to full document there; I think it's well worth a read.
You have such an Americanized view of Canada. In view of "immigrants filling our vast lands" - this isn't the 1890s wheat boom. The vast majority of immigrants to Canada settle into already overcrowded Montrol, Toronto, or Vancouver. It has been a large problem in Canada drawing them to rural areas, where they are needed. Secondly, people need to differentiate between economic migrants and refugees. Economic migrants have no moral right to be here and take advantage of what Canada as a country has built - our healthcare, infrastructre, society, etc. We should accept them as it benefits us as well as them. Refugees, however, need to be accepted on compassionate ground without regards to what language they speak. And we should take as much as the burden as society can shoulder (and Canada takes more refugees per Capita than any other country in the world).
no moral right to be there and take advantage of your government? what the hell did you do to build your government, moreso than the economic immigrants? i mean, you haven't exactly been around contributing to the buildin of the government. hell, a lot of those "immoral" immigrants have done more for your economy than you have.
wait wait...they have "no moral right" to be in Canada?? Now there is a warped view of morality. They have EVERY right to be wherever the hell they want to be on the planet that they live in. They crossed an imaginary line...that is certainly not an issue of morality. I do agree of course, with what you said about refugees. And just a word to all the immigrant bashers in the US. I hope you realize that Mexico has virtually no middle class, it is a 3rd world country, our US businesses exploit cheap labor and pollute their land to hell, their government is corrupt, they come to the US and then they are despised for speaking their native tongue. Also, I hope you realize it is NO easy task at all to learn a completely new language later in life, and that English is one of the more difficult languages to learn. Also too, we are dependant on their labor. With all this in mind how can you possibly carry on and on, unless you are simply racists wearing the mask of immigration reformist.
