there's a very practical concern, that of non-tax paying people overburdening all the systems within the usa. but still, not a problem if you make them citizens and start taxing their paychecks the same way everyone else's is. i don't see what the hell the problem is.
where to start where to start...well first off, christopher colombus never made it to our country. Second off, he didnt speak English lol. You might take a world history course or something. Also..English is generally considered a Germanic language, while Spanish is a romance language. Both indo-European, yes, but different origins none the less. And Ill tell you a little story...Its about how I worked in the tourism industry overseas, and I got a job in Italy...why?? because I spoke English! Because the job I was doing required the ability to speak a certain language, that I happened to speak. Its not unfair, its just how it is. Just being American is not enough for you to deserve whatever job you want...you also have to be qualified for that job. oh and actually its, "el bano ESTA enfuego." Just to clear that up.
yea im with you mamakcita...the thing is there are lots of problems with the way we handle immigration in this country. But to lay the blame on the immigrants themselves is rediculous to me! We need to get on the system, and the employers who pay illegal wages. To the person who was complaining about getting fired because a mexican would work for less...well that is not the mexicans fault. In fact he/she is being exploited. That is the fault of the employer, and thats where your anger should be directed.
and although it is true that many immigrants go without paying taxes, the same is true for many citizens of this country! its a universal problem. And the fact of the matter is, many immigrants do pay taxes. Most low wage jobs take them straight out of your paycheck..so unless they are getting paid under the table (which again is the fault of the employer, not the worker) for low wages, they are most likely paying taxes.
people do what they can to get by, and if the way they can get by is by going somewhere else, then they've got to do it. this is not an insult to the place their going, no matter the burden they may become. because people need to feed themselves, take care of themselves and their families. fining the employers heavily who are paying under the table is one very reasonable way of dealing with it. but hating people for trying to make a better life? that's just silly. embrace the change, enjoy the prospect of a new way of life. it's exciting. nothing lasts forever.
This thread is anti-immigrant, some people keep on talking crap, the point is Canada should stop importing everyone who can't fend for themselves, the point of immigrants is for them to come live amongst us and be decent contributors to society, we don't want people to come here and mooch off, we dont want people with 2 years of highschool education to come work at mcdonalds, we have our own teenagers to do that . I know some people are in serious danger due to courrpt government and such, some expections should be made, but we shouldn't be a charity center. If you let everyone in your country will eventually be dragged down to the level of their homeland.
I guess some people just have different priorities. radical self interest, or the well being of others.
I'm talking about potential migrants. They are outside of Canada. They have contributed nothing to the country in anyway. These potential economic migrants aren't coming here for our luscious skies, tall mountains, and open fields. They're coming here for economic opportunities. These opportunites didn't just magically arrive, and this wealth isn't just the luck of the draw. They come from the Canadian population's contributions towards infrastructure. These economic migrants are coming for the social benefits that we've all been paying into for generations. These aren't free. It is only fair to expect them to contribute to them - either by bringing in capital (money) or by requiring them to have certain levels of education (helping the odds that they will pay for themselves over the long run). There is no moral wrong in rejecting those coming for a free ride - and the sad fact is, the uneducated/unemployable/those who don't speak the dominant languages are only good for that. Refugees are another matter; if a person is in danger of political imprisonment, racial/religious discrimination, or any of the other qualifications to become a refugee then the moral onus is on us to help them. However, it is realistic that these people (through no real fault of their own) are not going to pull their own economic weight - so we have to limit how many we can help; otherwise, we won't be able to help any. And Canada already accepts more refugees per capita than any other developed nation.
They aren't coming because our soil is better than theirs - they're coming because collectively our society has built something worth having, and they want a piece. But if you haven't paid into it, you certainly have no inherent right to get a piece. This is a straw man logical fallacy and isn't worth responding too.
well you seem to have just responded to it. and again, it is bullshit when you say they have "no moral right" to be there. Im guessing you didnt think about it too much before you wrote it, but the fact remains it is not a moral issue. Also, you are simply dead wrong when you say that formally uneducated folks who dont speak the official language dont have anything to offer to society. That is extremely narrow minded.
okay, on a lighter note, i thought this was funny: http://www.ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=716522 Normally, a non-injury rear-end collision wouldn't warrant a news story. But in an ironic twist, this crash involved a van full of illegal immigrants which slammed into an SUV owned by the Department of Homeland Security. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the van was heading west Tuesday morning when it was involved in a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash near the Elliot Road off-ramp. Harold Sanders with DPS said, "the 11 illegal immigrants inside the van were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement." There were no reports of any injuries, despite the fact that the van was overloaded. "The passengers inside were moving targets for other vehicular danger," Sanders said. "The van was not designed to hold 11 people, that's based on the amount of seat positions."
The same way strangers have no moral right to hang out in my house. Money is physical capital, education is physical capital. Bring one or the other. We have enough poorly-educated Canadians we don't need to bring in immigrants to compete for their jobs, whereas professional shortages.
I like the fact that we take in refugees. I just don't want to take in more than we can afford. I like that we have economic migrants, but once again we have scarce resources, so don't take them if they don't bring anything to the table. Unskilled labour doesn't count. I don't hear you clamouring for unfettered access for Mexican immigration to the US.
What?! Canada had diamonds and gold, oil, and enough timber to bury the county, lack of resources isn't the problem. Although heavy inflation without much job growth could be problematic. Nobodys saying let everyone in. Just realise you have a large open country with many resources who would benifit from a large labor influx, and you're lucky to have generally open minded politicians. Of course you can't let anyone in no questions asked. The exact same is true with the US, sans the open minded politicians.
Scarce in the economic sense as in limited. Exactly. The point people are missing is that a)I support open access to immigrants who will benefit the country and b)I support granting refugee stats and accepting as many people who are in life-or-death need as possible.
I would enjoy canada if it had less immigrants. Diversity is only good if you know 30 fucking languages.
hehehhee. i have to say, i'm feeling a bit more sympthetic towards the candians now. they're more and more like us every day.
