That's like in America. Christmas, Easter, all of these holidays that have been around for years are being twisted and turned because it's offending someone. I don't care what people say about their meanings, etc. Those holidays have been a part of American culture since the beginning-or close to it. America is a giant clusterfuck of culture and I love to learn about it. I love to celebrate it. But I don't want to forget about Columbus Day (even tho he might have been a scum bag), I don't want to forget about the original, historical cultures of America. That's what seems to be happening slowly
HAHAHA And Maple fudge, syrup, leaf, ohh and Poutine. I'm obviously kidding, I dont mean to offend anyone, I just thought it was funny I love you Canadians!!
you're gonna have to kiss it goodbye. otherwise you'll be relegated to the role of inbred redneck, uncouth flag-waver, slobbering xenophobe, and closet jingoist. it's going away. it's never coming back. and honestly, once you get over the fear, it's pretty cool.
I agree with you totally. However do you know as a USA citizen the only way I can immigrate to Canada legally is to plop out one million dollars in the investors residency program. I could assimilate easily there. But becase I am not considered disadvantaged or from another country that it is considered fasionable to let people in from, I have to pay a million dollars. Meanwhile they have an open door to radical Islam type of countries that have no intention of becoming assimilated. Sad but true.
:nopity: also, I don't buy it. I know someone from the States living in Vancouver who didn't have to pay a million dollars.
I agree with this, but Cate the culture from all countries IS changing, again, we live in a globalized world and things become more and more homogeneous, all countries are losing their identity, whatever that means, all at their own pace. Immigration does this, hell, TV DOES THIS!
it starts out practical, really. people without money can't pay it even if you ask for it. but where are you going to put them? back in hell? nah. however, from the people who are pretty well off as a whole, which ones do you want? the dirty hippies, or the ones bringing it some cash? it's the same in a lot of places, not just canada.
I hardly need any sympathy from you or anyone else. I understand the rules. I will be in a strong position regardless of what the USA or Canada does.
Haha, actually Christmas was outlawed by the pilgrims. It wasnt even set aside as a federal holiday till 1870.
I said legally. Sure I can live there illegally. I am not economically disadvantaged. Or politically exploited by my government. Unless I marry someone there, it is highly unlikely. I have talked to Canadian immigrations and some immigration lawyers. If you know more than they do I would love to hear it. Do I need to post the link to the law here?
long enough that we shouldn't ignore the enjoyment people have in it. even if the whole black friday thing makes me want to vomit.
i love black friday i leisurely stroll out to the shopping centers mid day and still get the thing i want and then i flaunt it in front of all the people who got up and stayed out in the cold all night to rush in early morning to get soemthing that'd be there any time of the day
I knew a girl who went to Best Buy at 5pm to be there for open at 6am. Talk about dedication. I understand the sales are great...but I'd rather buy it used on ebay
Yeah, it's true. I agree with you despite the fact that I'm a radical atheist, and support their agenda. But I think the 'war on christmas' was just an attempt by conservative commentators to give some people something to be mad at during the holidays. One guy wants to get rid of the manjor scense and suddenly theres a war on christmas.
its ridiculous up in Boston haha they put up jewish symbols and other religious symbols...but putting up a christmas tree - oh noes, teh terrible thingz vill happenz
fort collins here was in the news for trying to "abolish christmas." what bullshit. i signed the fucking petition. all it said was that on city property, anyone involved in some sort of december observation not be excluded. seems fine to me. it's city property. there's no "you can't hang christmas lights" or "you can't display christmas images in your shop." people went all stupid about it. jeez.
