I am seriously disgusted by canadians today. A man looks you in the eye, lies to you, steals from you (and your children and grandchildren), participates in mass murder... and what do you do when offered the chance to send him packing?

Re-elect him or stay home.... You deserve what you are going to get in the next four years.... Sad part is that you have taken the rest of the country down with you. When you look around is shock and wonder what happened...

Remember... it was you who didn't vote, or didnt care enough to actually check to see who you were voting for that caused it.

To those who did vote, and didn't vote conservative... Good job and nice try. If we survive the next four years, we just have to try harder...

To the rest... You had best hope you don't ever need any form of compassion from anyone, especially the government, because you just voted everything like caring, compassion, honesty, honor and tolerance right out of our country.

People must have been stupid enough to vote out of fear, all those big bad scare tactics of Harper's...

The worst part is that while campaigning, Harper only really answered 2 or 3 questions, the rest he talked his way out of. All he ever talked about was the economy.

He doesn't seem to give a shit about any real issues outside of the economy.

And then people who voted conservative will turn around and complain when he doesn't do anything for them...

He doesn't care about the economy either... or at least not further then talking about it to get re-elected.

We are about to spend billions upon billions of dollars on equipment we don't need, in order to support wars we don't agree with.

How many billions? We won't know until harper is gone now... he has no need to explain anything to anyone, no need to answer any questions, no need to consider anything except his and his croonies pocket books.

    fucking putzes...

actually, you know whats worse then the putzes that didn't vote?

The fucking rats who voted for harper... Especially the ones who hang out and claim to have friends amongst stoners...

In real life, you know what we call someone who hangs out with stoners, doesnt toke and supports laws (and those who make them) against pot?

    A punching bag....

In some cases... big fat useless fucking punching bags....

I just don't understand how people can be so ignorant. It really says a lot about the voting public.

At the risk of sounding biased, I have a feeling that the older generations are largely responsible for the mass Harper appeal. I wonder how many actually understand his platform, and how many just vote out of tradition, they've been voting conservative their whole lives, why change it now...

I think if many people actually took the time to look into Harper's real agenda, their vote would have been different.

I think most only look for hot topics words such as "no tax raises" and "stable economy" and vote for that.

    Really?

    I can.

They are fucking morons... Which doesn't surprise me... after all, that is what I keep saying over and over again...

I just keep hoping that I'm wrong...

I so wish I could have been wrong...

So, how much power as official opposition does Layton really have?

With regards to Harper's tough on crime bullshit and the billions he'll shortly be wanting to dump into new prisons. Is it very likely that he'll be able to just go right ahead with all that?

    Layton's power?

    Zero

    What harper wants, harper gets...

There is literally nothing anyone can do to stop him from doing anything he pleases.

See, in a normal party, he would still have to worry about passing things through his caucus... Who should be making decisions based on their constituents....

Harper doesn't run his party like that. It is his way, or the highway. He has proven this over and over... and now that he has 'spare' votes, it means he will always pass what he wants.

The worst of it is that I will even bet that you will see some of those 'spare' votes, votes against the party line (not effecting the outcome of course), so he can claim that he lets them vote freely.

We are now under a dictatorship.

It will... it will effect everything, and not in a good way.

Three of our supreme court judges are retiring in the next three years... harper gets to pick their replacements...

Medical Marijuana? All he has to do is pass a stop gap bill against pot (including medical) within the 90 days like the courts ordered.

A challenge to it will be issued.

By the time the challenge gets to the court, the court will be heavy with harpers bum buddies...

Guess what happens then... bye bye medical marijuana...

Our health care system? Will be sold out to the highest bidders (that are friends of harpers)...

There are no controls left on harper... none, zero, zilch...

Not good. Bush packed the supreme court here with conservatives and the first thing we knew--corporations were classified as "persons" with no limits on money contributions ,thus furthering the corporatocracy we have. The right -wing rich win again. Who did the Quebecois(sp?) vote for? Do their separatist interests cause them to vote conservative?

No, they all went to the NDP (left)... ignoring the harper majority (which I wont be able to do...), the election turned out pretty good...

We greens got our first elected MP, the leader of the party, Elizabeth May... and the NDP made historic gains...

    four years...

just shy of 1500 days... edited to add... Oh, and the Bloc died... that's also a good thing.

I voted NDP (and I'm from quebec). I would really like to see them in power in four years, but they really are going to have their cards right in quebec over the next 4 years, because if they screw quebec over like Bob Rae did in Ontario, the whole thing will backfire big time.

I think these are pretty exciting times, and I hope the tories dont fuck everything up beyond repair in the next 4 years.

Well, just keep in mind that you shouldn't be expecting them to accomplish anything.

They can stand up and scream until they are blue in the face (is that why cons are blue? lack of oxygen??) and the cons can just completely ignore them...

Harper didn't consult with his OWN party before he did things in a minority government when he needed every ounce of support he could get... Why would he talk or listen to the opposition now?

Realistically our flag should now be blue and white...

edit: along with trying to change 'The Government of Canada' to 'The Harper Government', dickhead would probably like to change the flag to blue and white too.

That flag otta be upside down.

Today I met my first conservative gay. It was an awkward experience.
He asked me what I thought.
    I said " I'm a lower class, queer , pot smoker....how do you think I feel "
He started to go on about economy.
I said it was interesting that he was willing to give up his rights for his fiscal beliefs.
He pretty much blew it off. He's been with his partner long enough and doesn't care about marriage so...whatever, if the rest of us are having rights issues. Apparently that's more my problem than the governments.

He trys to smooth me over with a " Look at it this way. At least you're not living in some war torn country..."

I called bullshit. Justifying the status quo by making comparisons and saying 'it could be worse' is the opposite of 'progressive'.

Gawds, I don't know how I made it through work today without tearing somebody a new one...it came close a few times.
