the fittness in question, is however the capacity to co-exist and interact in ways that are sustainable within the context of the whole environment.

(in which, just as a btw, it is the top predators who are the most vulnerable do to their dependence on the availability of their prey).

evolution is based on what there is a place for, in the whole, complexly interacting realities of a diverse environment, not the strength of tooth and claw.

to be slightly more on topic:

whatever the faults of marxism, and there are several, the faults of ideological prejudice, are far greater. and every bit as tyrannical. as likewise are the faults of any nationalism, regardless of ideology, economics, or belief.

a socialism which is neither marxist nor nationalist, IS possible.
not only possible, but was demonstrated in western europe between 1950 and 1990. it hasn't entirely died there yet either, though of course, it is now, apearantly being denied even there.

it is precisely this denial that has resulted in, and continues to perpetuate, this so called economic crisis.
