he reached the point where he wanted to be left alone and sliped out yesterday. tonight will be his second night awol and the other cats can't locate him. he was snarling at them and not too happy about the meds. when healthy he's gone off hunting (female in heat?) for longer. prayers......
I will pray, Ranger. You never know with those Toms. I know it worries you and the other kitties. Poor guy. Please be safe out there, Sai...you are loved. :grouphug:
We lost a little angel kitty today. This kitten appeared out of nowhere during the middle of last week. It was a little black and white male. He was obviously ill and had a wound on the side of his throat. We all loved him and took care of him. Especially the 60+ lbs. Pit Bull. <3 Anyway, we feared a bot fly had caused the wound but we were hoping it was already out and the kitten would heal. It wasn't out. It caused the characteristic lump. "The Estranged One" slathered neosporin on it to smother it. A little while later he was trimming some hair from around the wound and the larva came out on a clump of hair. We were hoping the little kitten, "Bandit", would get well after that but he didn't. He went down hill. I'm pretty sure that he was blind last night. We saw him this morning and he was still weak. Just a little while ago, when I went to feed the feral kittens down the street, I found little Bandit dead in the yard beside the driveway. I hate those fucking bot flies. RIP little Bandit angel. You knew where to come to fill yourself with love for your last days.
Those bot flies are nasty creatures but "the estranged one" read that they bite all animals and only take hold in the ones who were previously weak for some other reason.
my cat is a stray adoption, who is indoor outdoor now. I keep the garage door up for her, she comes in at night to snuggle me. I am sure that with all the food ( i fill a huge dog bowl) that I go through, I am sure she is not the only one eating, so i think some other kitties are eating it
So...Mama Kitty has brought her latest litter of kittens up to my house to eat. I've been feeding them under a broken down car in the neighbors yard. What will I do with these ferals? Mama Kitty is Baby Kitty's mother. These kittens are kind of outgoing but cautious. Maybe I can tame them enough to catch them and get them spayed/neutered. They are precious. They were born around the full moon in March. There is Runt-Runt whose most distinctive feature is a grey and black saddle on their back. There is Polka who has ping pong ball sized round spots of different colors on their side. There is Mystic, who has grey patches and a grey swirl on one side. They are all white based with the crazy mix of peach, grey, and grey tiger stripes. I'll get some pics of them in a few days, now that they will be coming here to eat every evening.
You should get them and momma cat spayed/neutered and any father cats if possible and than release them. Some areas have financial help for catch/neuter/release situations. They may supply live traps also... The feral colony will remain intact and will live longer and healthier lives. See what your local Humane Society knows about. There is also a group called "Alley Cat Allies" that may know of something in your area. (Google them for the web address) Kitties sound cute
Mama Cat is so wise...I don't know if she will go into a trap... I haven't tried it but I'm going to have to. I'll probably catch every other cat but her. The grandkids go back to school on Monday and I can have my mornings and mid-days back to check into this. It has to be done.
I met an ole gal in the '60s just outside of San Antonio with 30 some odd of those black & white kitties maybe half of them descented, all friendly with only her knowing which. She had no need for guard dogs.....lol
They are cute and apparently very good pets... Until they have to take a piss, then it's house clearing time...
When I moved to FL in Nov. 2012, there was an orange male cat that started hanging around my house, no doubt attracted to my three (spayed) females who were safely out of reach on a screened porch. I started feeding him because he was skinny and unkempt-looking. At first, this cat wouldn't let me get anywhere near him. If he even caught sight of me he'd take off running. Since then, he'll allow me to get within 5 feet of him and isn't quite as skittish, and has more recently taken to giving me one or two quiet meows, but otherwise doesn't volcalize himself. I debated trapping him, having him neutered/vaccinated and carefully introducing him into our household routine, but something tells me that this cat was horribly abused somewhere along the way, and he might not assimilate well into a domestic situation. I feel terrible because I'm getting ready to start a new job on the east coast of Florida and will have to leave him behind at the other house, where he seems to have taken up residence under my neighbor's shed. My neighbor is aware of the cat's comings and goings, and came over to the house the other day to tell me he's purchased food for "Charlie" so he can assume feeding duties in my absence. I left the neighbor a ton of canned and dry food. Charlie is safer in the older neighborhood anyway, which was out in the Ocala National Forest. I'm afraid if I brought him over to Volusia County, he'd end up being euthanized for being a stray in our overly-residential neighborhood, where I've seen the Animal Control van out and about in my neighborhood more often than I would like. Wish I could have domesticated the boy. He was a handsome devil.
