My sister once bought a house that came with a cat. Took us a while to figure out how she kept getting indoors then realized that the basement doors (outside the house) had a gap between them and the ground. My sister adopted Daisy and Daisy did accept moving with her when she bought another house some years later.
Aw...I'm glad the neighbor is going to take care of Charlie. Yeah, Volusia County isn't a place for any strays.
I was feeding a stray right before I had to leave California. A little black kitty with no tail... He actually started to let me pet him and then I had to go... He was too wild to fit into my household of cats. New owners didn't seem too interested in continuing to feed him. I always wondered what happened to Lil'Black kitty.
He wandered and found you so I figure he can wander and find someone else if he wanted to be around humans.
Mama Kitty is pregnant...again. I'm really going to have to trap her. I don't know how many of the 3 out in the yard, from her litter born in March, are females. Damn it. Why do people just put animals out to go feral?
They do that because they don't care... Your Mama Kitty sounds like my "Mommas" RIP... She gave birth to most of the brood I had awhile back. Mommas would try for two litters a year if possible.
Mama Kitty amazes me. She lives on her own, except for me feeding her and she takes care of the kittens so well. She's still taking care of the 3 born in March. She keeps them rounded up and with her all the time. She let Baby Kitty have a bit more freedom but that might have been her first kitten.
An update on the cats - I just got back from having "R. J." put down. He had wasted away to a bag of bones and had lost the ability to control his bowels this weekend. He'd been very sick for a while. The vet said he was probably about 5 years old and he might have had Feline Leukemia or Feline Aids. Here is a pic of him when he wandered up here about a year ago. Thunder Cat went missing a little over 3 weeks ago. Fancy, the newest to wander up, who I thought was part Maine Coon, went missing 2 weeks ago. I think she was pregnant. Mama Kitty give birth to another litter last week. I haven't seen any of them so I don't know how many there are. Her litter from March is here hanging around. There are 3 of them: Mystic, Polka, and Runt Runt. Stacey is looking like she feels a little under the weather but hopefully she will perk up when the weather starts to cool down. My indoor cats: Baby Kitty, Mabon, and Skooter are fine. Baby Kitty is growing. She's bigger than Mabon now. She lays very near us but still doesn't want us to touch her. She gets along great with the other two. So, there you have it. My feral report. Everyone of this cats wandered up stray at some point. RIP "R. J.", we tried.
Even if I wanted too, I couldn't take care of homeless cats because my boyfriend's cat runs away any cats that come around. Hes outside because him and Cara, one of the indoor cats fought and fought and fought because they both wanted to be the 'leader' and neither one would give up.
Yeah Toes, there are some cats that act like that, especially for dominance. Some of them just don't get along. Libra, I don't know, but I would imagine that older cats probably can get some kind of age related dementia.
So very sorry to hear about R.J. You did the best thing by helping him out of his misery, but its still sad. (He'll be waiting.) My 2 house cats are beginning to get along...one is BB that was rescued from the demon's building across the street (in 1/11) and Brownie wandered up about 3 1/2 yrs ago. BB (the female) is a lot meaner that my sweet fat Brownie Brown. < my report.
A bit off topic, but not really. On another forum, a couple of members had to recently put their old dogs to sleep. I dread the day it comes for me to have to do the same for my cat. Hopefully, she dies peacefully in her sleep so that I do not have to resort to putting her out of her misery.
That's a great report, Lynn. It made me smile. Fox, my daughter, who is 27 years old, went with me today and she decided to go back with us. I've stayed with my dog and one of my cats when they were put to sleep. My daughter had never experienced it. I told her that I thought it was good that she go and see how gentle and easy it is, so that if she ever had to put down an animal that she was emotionally tied to then she would know that it's not a horrifying experience. You know, often what we fear most is the unknown.
