for years I lived in a very rural area and I needed a car to do or go anywhere, riding a bike was simply too far it would take me well over an hour just to get anywhere.

now I live in the city and I own a car, I didn't own a car for almost two years. frankly I can't live without one, the freedom to go places and the ability to carry extra stuff with me (groceries guitar etc, even just an extra sweater)!

I know its bad, and car pollute. if you car is kept in good working condition I wouldn't worry too much about it, most exhaust is carbon dioxide, which we breath out, I understand its far more than we could ever breath out. but it is still not something that isn't a part of nature. where did the car come from in the first place? every piece of the car came from somewhere in nature!! even the plastic parts! if a car sits and rots it returns to the earth almost completely.

so as others have said, drive small drive less, and try not to stress science will bring us out of polluting, give it time...

the world can live on if people pollute the world so bad we can't live...it might just take a while to clean itself... :)

Most American cities have evolved based on the availability of cheap energy. There is no quick or easy fix for this, and there is very little the average individual can do about it. I bought a house that enables me to walk to a variety of places that I need to go, but by doing so, I forced someone else to have to buy a house that is farther away from downtown.

The most worthwhile thing I have done lately in this area was to successfully lobby to have a new sidewalk built. Many neighborhoods in this region have narrow streets and deep ditches, making it unsafe to walk anywhere that there is no sidewalk.

Veroness, you alone are killing the planet. Be ashamed! Be verrrrrrrrry ashamed! Buy a prius to alleviate the guilt! Do not worry about all the pollution that Toyota causes by making a car that appeals to a large market. A large market created by advertising companies convincing you that you are guilty of fucking the planet.

I've decided in my job search that my next job must be within 8 miles and have a shower facility, so I can bike to work.
