the yellow or ponderosa pine was dominant where i grew up. dug fur and lodgpole higher up. oaks black and white, even the occasional bay laural. manzanita were the chaparelle lower down and wild blackberries along the creeks and any place they got the chance. there were cedar too, and a kind of prostrate cedar called kit kit dizz, that smelled more like pine then pine. it was the evergreens that predominated though. i don't know if i have any of the pictures that will do them justice posted anywhere, though i do have one with a train in it (of course) that will give you some idea of the trees and their size http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3924727/
that doesn't really show the density of the forest around there in most places that were less vertical
if you ignore the foreground items created in blender in this one, the trees in the background are an actual photo from someplace, probably the stevens trail, near where i lived http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6030333/
here's one of where i lived on top of donner summit. its not a very good illustration for the trees, but it gives something of the idea http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3955827/
all of these were taken back in the late 60s and early 70s, but i'm pretty sure the mountains and the trees are still there, at least they were less then a year ago, the last time i took a train and bus ride in that direction.

i do have much better pictures for the purpose, i just don't have any of them posted anywhere on the net i can link to them (that i know of)(i could probably upload some to pinterest if i remember to)

A few trees from an epic hike a while back. Hope to be there again soon.
