you know I feel realy stupid asking this, but I just never educated myself on the Manson family. Can someone provide me a link as to what they did and what happened to them? I don't know much about it and it interests me.

read Helter Skelter. The movie is alright, and pretty "educational" but as with most books-into-movie situation, the book is better. It's pretty sick, what happened. But at the same time, oddly fascinating. it's like a bullentin board saying "this is what can happen to the human race if we're not careful." creepy!

Charles Manson was no hippie, he was the ultimate phoney hippie. Phoney hippies shared none of the ideals of the hippie culture, they just went along with it in order to take advantage of the more naive and gullible hippies and get in on the free sex and drugs. Charles Manson went way beyond that, he took advantage of the most vulnerable among the flower children so he could warp their minds with the bullshit he spouted and turn them into killers with no remorse. In fact, he didn't even like or respect hippies, he looked upon them as ignorant idealistic spoiled brats.
Most of the hippies he encountered in the Haight during the summer of love saw him for the hateful lunatic he was, so his followers were those who didn't have sense enough to see that.

Crazy, angry, despicable..yeah that sounds about right. But he's also infinitely fascinating, and will be even after he dies. Our society has always had a fascination with people like him, and it's easy to see why.

he lived with one of the beach boys for a while- i thin he had hippy characteristics- but he definately wasnt a hippie. he would be better described as a sick fuck murdering pervert. did yall know that he had like 50 wives that devoted themselves to having sex with him? he was like a master brainwasher

He's a slimy tiny piece of shit who manipulated vunerable lost runaway trash who were really no better than he.

This horseshit about hippies being all about peace and love is also hawgwash. Reality being the simple fact that many were simply drug and alcohol addicted lost causes looking for a free ride and making excuses for their own misled asses.

Go back a few years and indulge yourselves in the so called beatniks. Now those bastards were cool!

He was the baddest hippie of them all!.He wanted Terry Melcher (Doris Day's Son)to make him a pop star. When Terry Melcher had used his hospitality (free love) but offered him no contract; he sent his brainwashed psychos to murder him.Melcher was not there:-he had sold his house to Roman Polanski & it was his wife Sharon Tate & her friends who were horribly butchered instead.

Charles Manson is a perversity of the Hippie Movement turned on its head.
Free love - hippie communes- wife sharing-love of flower & fauna-respect for animals-Charles Mansion accepted these token creeds of Hippie Folklore but his warped & criminally-minded sense of brotherhood & sisterhood meant that the 'Pigs' had to die in a bloody revolution prophesized by 'The Beatles'.

Remember this is the time of the Vietnam War; the My Lai Massacre & the Rolling Stones,Alamont Speedway slaying.War & violence had become a passive everyday occurance of a society in turmoil.

Manson had a twisted & warped justification in his own mind to manifest violence because violence was the code by which America was living in 1969.
