not the previous day..but previous shift...theres some rule about whether or not it would have normally been a work day and something about the previous weeks...I worked for some chinese fuckers a long time ago that would plan the shifts a month ahead of time in a certain way that make it the cheapest for them by fucking up the shifts just perfectly so they could get away from paying it out to most of us...they were really really good at it

in my old union you could be on a permanent show such as Les Miserables[IMG] and be catching calls in various theaters during the day and on weekends..many times i was paid from 2 different venues for the same holiday plus overtime in whichever one i worked on the actual holiday..........so the cord to the camera is mia as usual...gotta wait......but trust me...i do have some cool pics

when you work in retail I think it's kind of expected that you're going to have to work weekends and holidays, as much as it sucks.

Wow whole lot of ideas about law regarding being paid in Canada for holidays and also conditions of employment. If it is a stat holiday such as Xmas you are paid at a different rate opposed to a bank holiday. If it is a federal holiday you have to be paid overtime if you are scheduled to work it. If it is a bank holiday then it is at the discretion of the employer.

The rules about day before or shifts are company or union and do not apply to the federal statutes. You accept those when you sign condition of employment.

For all those self employed people you also have discretion (unless caught) of not claiming income. Rather at times compensates as at the very least you earn on the dollar 18% that is not taxable. The scale goes up from that based upon your own ambition and cheating. :)

back when i worked at that place everyone was part time and they screwed us by giving one less shift ..there was some clause about working so many shifts in the two weeks previous

this was back in the early and mid 90's..

You had a dick of a boss in the 90's or a smart one for his bottom line.

The statures are clear and the problem is that most do not challenge them...so you do not get paid.

Also being parttime is a variable but if it is a stat holiday and you are scheduled to work you have to be compensated.

Small business tend to then schedule those who have less seniority ( or who the boss likes) or hours banked as they only have to pay out at time and a half. Someone who works full hours and is scheduled they have to pay out at time and time and half.

Stat holiday and bank or civic holidays are totally different.
