i got to see him live twice. watched his HBO specials all throughout my childhood, the first i really remember was "you are all diseased" when i started to really listen and understand what he was saying. my parents did not censor our tv access. i am so grateful for it.

I'm glad you brought that up about the bible referring to "plants"...it says herbs which bear seed he gives to us as meat. There has been more than one time that I've asked one of these self-righteous asses if they are aware that GOD MANUFACTURES MARIJUANA?!? They look at me with this stunned look. I've thought wth you idiot, but I've said "Its a plant. It bears seed. Man didn't create this."

In this same vein there are MANY thumpers that say DRINKING IS WRONG WRONG WRONG. Well, that was also Jesus first miracle - to turn water into wine. After Jesus turned the water, it states the wedding party made merry many days...and there's just no way to make merry on grape juice :), which is what the same idiots, I mean thumpers, would say. ;)

There are so many that stand on their self-appointed pedestals claiming God is judging others for things they happen not to agree with and they either #1- don't even know what the bible says on the matter or #2 ignore it and make up their own rules.

I'm not a big fan of organized religion, in case you can't tell. lol

I never saw George Carlin live, but I so loved his humor. He was intelligent, wise and had courage.

yes in the first chapter of Genesis ...
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

:2thumbsup: I like the fact that this is up front, at the beginning of the whole book...so that people that have ears can hear (so to say) to start with that there is nothing inherently wrong with weed. :)

and fermentation is a natural process too. there are animals that get drunk off of fallen fruit.

its silly. i think that it served a purpose when the world was big and scary and unexplained, but we know more now. i had a relative (from hubby's side of the family, thank goodness) who told me the flood was worldwide because there was a whale fossil found vertical.

ummm, no. i just smiled and nodded. he thinks im a Catholic, it was all i could come up with when he confronted me(and i was confirmed, so i can claim it, i did go through it) and he started to point out how different the Baptist faith is from catholocism.

i dont want to make waves, but fuck is it ever hard to talk to a person like that when you are a post-theist!

lol...you are talking about someone that wants to point out differences between Baptists and Catholics...he might just fall on over and be greeting Jesus personally (I guess ;) ) if you were to tell him how you really felt. :D

yeah...being a drunk is frowned upon in the bible, but simply drinking a bit for a wedding or a little for the digestion is actually encouraged. Those that are opposed to drinking whatsoever (Baptists, for example) have never been very pleased when I've pointed out Jesus 1st miracle to them. lol

i know. im sure it will come to a head one day. he will probably ask me (or my son, haha) to say grace. ive been looking through some pagan prayers of thanks. still having a hard time choosing a simple one. easy to remember, mild but obviously obvious that i am not a christian. i had one written down somewhere, but everything is a mess.

I know the feeling, although I never did the confirmation. My father still insists I am Catholic though.

    LOL :D

    :D GRACE!

My mother says grace aloud when we eat together. Most of the time I eat alone and I try to remember to say a (quick) silent offering of thanks but I oft forget.

Those are funny! ^ I appreciate that even if y'all don't feel/believe exactly the same way as them, which hell (lol) I don't believe exactly the same as them either, I'm sure...you know that for just a brief moment in time it is easier to just go along. It doesn't hurt anything...In the long run, and especially in this instance it is much better to go along to get along when it is family and saying grace aloud at the table before you eat.

I remember that being one of the funny times during childhood when there was a big (for us) family gathering, and while -whoever- prayed we would look around, almost laugh out loud and try to get a cousin to bust out in laughing or from getting pinched. ha good times. :2thumbsup:

Edit: Its times like that I REALLY WISH I COULD WATCH YOUTUBE.
