I am annoyed, as workers were here the last two days, sanding and recoloring and revarnashing both of the porches here. They worked hard and did a great job. However, the color I picked is not what is. I picked a cedar color from their book that looked like a cinnamon color, which is what I wanted...and the color looks like ca ca....pale yuck color....$600.. later, and I am disappointed.

No, they have book for starters and you pick the color you want something to be, and this looks NOTHING like the color in the book. I hate the color these porches are now....so now what do I do?

    Re-paint is the only option.

Sounds like they mixed the color wrong. I know that if you pick an Olympic color but ask to have the color matched in Valspar one coat paint, you have to specifically ask to have the color matched to the color card. New associates in a paint department will just add the Olympic color to the Valspar paint in the proportions meant for the Olympic paint.

I would call the paint place and tell them the color is not the one you picked.

I can't. It was a private contractor, and it is not a paint...It is a stain.
Well, will have to live with it for 3-4 years, I guess....as that is how long it will last about.... weathering the weather out there .....

These porches were the perfect color and stain before, but that was all weathered off and you got splinters out there.....so that is why they had to be sanded first.

paint problems are sorted out easy

you do it before the job happens...it starts with a clear and concise contract

and it ends when they get paid...which happens when the job is done and passes the customer inspection

It's a stain, and it was wet when they left, and I had no idea it would dry to this color. It was dry long after they left. Can someone restain over a new stain?

You will have to lightly sand first and then get a primer tinted to the new shade you wish to apply. You will get better coverage if you apply a primer that is tinted before redoing a stain. After that you can reapply a stain to it. Makes for a lot of work and money but it can be done. :)

It sucks that it is not how you would like it. Maybe live with it for this year and then redo it next year instead and you can budget then for that. Not the best situation but at least no more splinters. :)
