Any of you know anything about nootropics? They're interesting, but probably BS...

They definitely sound a little fishy... I'm guessing it's all placebo, I've seen a lot of these products ads and they have really good marketing, the idea of them is really cool... It'd be awesome if they were legitimate. But I don't entirely think they are, I don't even entirely think vitamins do anything... I think the thought of thinking vitamins do something does something, but not the actual vitamin itself... So i'm guessing it's the same with nootropics, I just learnt about these though so who knows...

There is no real evidence for most of that stuff, mostly marketing.

There is evidence they help with certain types of brain damage like with Alzheimers. I have taken them and and did notice I was a bit more talkative and calm. But I didn't feel any smarter, but I don't have Alzheimers I am not the best judge.

I've actually heard of it helping with Alzheimer's as well, I didn't really check the sources or anything though so who knows. I see a lot of mixed reviews on these things. I know how a lot of supplement companies work, 90% marketing 10% facts.

I don't think the intent is to make you smarter though, as no drug (well, maybe psychedelics :p) can do that... Only way to get smarter is by getting a legitimate education, but I think the real intent is to help you focus in order to get a legitimate education. Like steroids for your mind, except a lot weaker with less noticeable effects I'm assuming.

You know how the news exaggerates everything and tries to turn nothing into something. I've heard that all nootropics claim to do is clear that fogginess you sometimes get, make you more alert and aware, and temporarily boost your memory. Basically, it's exactly like caffeine without the crash you get. I don't entirely buy it either, but I'm not completely against the idea... I'm wondering if it would help with ADD, make you more collected and centered perhaps. I dunno, it's only like $30 for a months worth, I might try it out just as an experiment, I'm so curious about it.

It is most likely just a placebo effect, in my opinion.

That's what I've been thinking as well.

There's tons of people saying good things about this stuff, but I feel as if the majority are either sponsored by them or feeling a placebo effect by them.

But, if you look past all of the hype and news coverage they get, they don't sound as unbelievable. What they claim to do isn't insane or unheard of, sounds like a caffeine pill minus the body energy. You know how caffeine effects your mind? Basically that's all they really claim to do once you look past all the intense marketing and people hyping it up. And if they do work, they might be better for your mind than caffeine... I always hear mixed thoughts on heavy caffeine usage, I don't really know what's true lol

If they can give me the same effects as caffeine I'd be happy, it's cheaper than buying a cup of coffee every morning lol

They most certainly do. Most vitamins have effects in the body and facilitate certain cell processes, as well as other biological processes. The problem is that vitamins are being marketed as some sort of cure all, make you feel better instantly snake oil.

Basically, if you eat healthy you'll get most of the vitamins you need. You don't need to be buying vitamin water, vitamin pills etc. Definitely not at a young age especially. Either way, vitamins are more of a long-term health issue. You won't notice a difference from taking vitamins intensely for one week.

And I suspect the same is with nootropics. You would need to take them for a while to notice any real "mental enhancement". I have a few friends who've tried them, and they claim to have enhance study abilities while on them. I believe Piracetam is what they took. But just like caffeine, it doesn't do the work for you, just provides some motivation to work.

    Hope I've helped. :daisy:

my mom had to explain to her doctor that she eats a variety of different fruits a nd vegetables, different types of grains and starches, meat and fish, and therefore, no, she wouldnt be taking multivitamins.

im not going to lie though, i have a magic potion. kefir is really helping everyone in my family. you cant absorb other nutrients with a fucked-up gut. when my boy is sick, he will have symptoms for ages, but with a shot of kefir he balances out. im going to pit it against cream cheese next, i would be so happy to not regret my favorite breakfast. i picked up pomegranate flavored kefir, its my favorite so far. my mom started drinking it too, she called me a few days later amazed that it worked. it would be over the top TMI to go into detail, so i wont.

my back is hurting. hubby has been sick, longer than a week now. his apnea is triggering coughing fits, so hes not sleeping well.
im in the process of getting whatever he has, im just exhausted. some difficulty regulating my temperature, cant get comfortable. back pain is from shifting awkward buckets in my messy garage. oh, and in that garage? evidence of mice. always more crap to do.

I feel like I've mentally plateaued. Like my brain just shut itself off for a couple of days. I've consumed so much new information on so many different topics lately, it's like opening up a ton of different applications on your computer and then it just crashes. I need something to reboot me lol
