Holy Jebus the mechanic starts early here! Not even 5am and I have a text message. Was only my coil that broke, will test run later this morning for me. Phew. I hope that's the case. I dunno what it means at all but he sounds positive so that makes me feel better.

bad coil would make one cylinder misfire or not fire at all (or 2 depending on type of engine)

very bad for catalyst having all that raw fuel go into the exhaust system

That's exactly what the problem was. I was down to 5. I only drive it about 12km to the workshop so hopefully it's okay.

longer drive would have possibly got the converter so hot it would melt...ive seen inside carpeting melt from glowing cats


usually orange engine will flash to warn when converter damage is happening...i dont know if euro cars are programmed that way

 

Oz just hit the 10 lb mark, 10 lbs 1 oz in fact. looking good, still have antibiotics running until friday. if his spinal tap tomorrow cultures clear then we will be home for the weekend. he is a vigorous kicker, which is a huge pain since his central line is in his foot. we keep needing to redress it. he holds his head up pretty well for burping, that will improve further with tummy time at home. i look forward to not needing to navigate the cords and iv lines to feed him.

Just paid off my car. Reminds me of the first time i had a car loan. I paid it off and then i figured now i can reduce the insurance to save a few bucks. Less than a couple months later i got into an accident that was my fault. The thing was a complete loss.
My insurance is so cheap now that there is no reason to change it.
