Has anyone heard "Precious Friend," the live concert by Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthry on double LP? Arlo talks about an "un-neutron bomb," that makes all of the guns melt, and everyones clothes dissapear. Sounds pretty good to me.
Guns do not bother me at all. I grew up with guns. My father bought me my first riffle when I was 9 years old. Not much of a hunter (not that there is anything wrong with hunting), I enjoy it for recational shooting (clay pigons, targets, etc...). It all depends on the level of maturity of the person to be taught correctly on gun safety and the safety of handeling of a gun. I also believe, that if the USA was not so strict on gun patrol, there would not be as many problems with crime. OK, not that you can have a gun strapped to you side at all times but to be able to protect you family. People should be able to own hand guns and rifles(after doing some very intense back ground checks). Here in Chicago, hand guns are illegal which is really stupid............... ~namaste~
I mean I totally agree people have a right to own guns and such. I am not anti-gun or anything.. It just bothers me a tad bit when I hear this stupid moron letting his little kids run around outside shooting things and hes not out there, that to me is the dumbest dad ever and shouldnt be aloud to own guns or children for that matter , ya know what i mean...
Yes, I know what you mean. Too bad the father did not get shot, instead of one of the kids............... ~namaste~
Yeah, I know.. And the little boy who was shot, wasnt even his kid. There were three of them, two were his and one wasnt. Hes lucky he only shot him in the foot. Just thinking about what else could have happened makes my stomach hurt. I sorta wished I had a statement from the other kids parents because I would love to hear what they thought about the situation and such....
It was too bad that the one kid's father did not get shot. That would of been a good way of "weeding out" our over-populated world. One less stupid person wandering the earth ............... ~namaste~
Haha, you got that right You should have heard the father though. No sign of guilt, nothing. It was real sad. The claims adjuster couldnt believe how he didnt supervise these kids at all. It was funny cause the adjuster was getting smart with him and such.
Ok , charles bronsan , your not. .. i was being a little silly.. sorry. Who points the gun first wins, its that simple, you're not going to have time to take a gun outta your pants if somebodys already pointing one at you. Thanks for finishing the statistics off for me.. maybe i had read my bible (sig) a little too intently.. but i agree with your logic.. and mine was not wildly diffrent (just unfinished) ...I did make up the bit about the sas training our coppers got .. that was pure fantasy. What if what if lodui..yeah yeah.. but this granny should have someone with her.. I just find the whole gun culture of america , and the rush too make our culture seem the same, frightning. Ok..blasting away with a desert eagle would be fun..in a controled safe enironment of course
Don't watch a Moore documentary, you'll feel a lot better. Watch The Transporter and call me in the morning.
Thats the one with the brit' in right.. their is a sequel as well coming or already out. Too late.. http://www.shuqifan.com/ I am in love *sigh*
I also don't believe there's such a thing as a "22 gauge." I think y'all have it confused with ".22 caliber." I am a gun owner, who was taught gun safety as a child (about 8 or so) by my brother, who was 17 at the time. It was with BB guns then. At that time, the single gun that was in our family's household was a bolt-action, youth-sized .22 rifle by Remington, and it belonged to my brother. I get a lot of my fascination with guns and knives and other cool gear from him. He taught me the rules of gun safety, and when I was 9 he gave me my first BB gun as a birthday present. I see guns as a reality in our world, and as a functional, useful tool. They are not evil; they do not have the capacity to be "good" or "evil" because they are inanimate objects, and can do nothing but those things for which they are used by humans. So a good human can save lives using a gun and a bad human can simply take them. LACK OF GUN EDUCATION IS WHAT CAUSES GUN ACCIDENTS AMONG KIDS -- NOT THE PRESENCE OF GUNS. There's the big fallacy. People claim that we have to keep kids and guns separate, and that'll solve the problem. But the thing is WE CAN'T keep kids and guns separate, so the next best thing we could do is TEACH kids -- remember TEACHING? -- so that WHEN they encounter guns, and they will, they can be SAFE with them. Shit, we teach kids how to have SEX safely because we realize we can't keep them FROM having sex... Why not accept the fact that kids MAY encounter guns, so teach them how do at least do it safely? It's really pretty fuckin' stupid to make a zero-tolerance household rule of: "I will never allow my kids to have anything to do with guns." What do you think causes them to get all curious and go and dangerously play with guns? It's the fact that they have MYSTERY about them! The kids see the guns on t.v., they marvel at the power they have, and then they go and sneak a peek when the parents aren't around: lacking any knowledge of how they work, since they'v been "protected" from guns all their lives, the kids who have had ignorance forced upon them don't even know how to handle the guns safely and BOOM they kill themselves or someone else. I don't understand why there is such resistance to letting kids have knowledge about guns. Near as I can figure, it's an IRRATIONAL RESPONSE on the part of some adults who FEAR something, and therefore think that the right course is to just STAY AWAY from it instead of LEARNING HOW TO CONTROL IT. Guns are like hot water faucets, hot stoves, busy streets, sex, household chemicals... Children need to be EDUCATED about them, not SHELTERED from them. Because one of these days, everyone will encounter something from that list, and they'd better be ready to handle the experience and come out the other side of it uninjured. So far, we have loads of organizations opposed to gun ownership, calling themselves things like "Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence," and "Americans for Gun Safety." These organizations do not have a single gun-safety program, nor do they offer or pay for gun safety training for children OR adults. Do you know who DOES spend MILLIONS OF DOLLARS EACH YEAR on such gun safety programs that help people keep accidents at bay? The NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION, the most maligned non-criminal organization in the country. They teach the Eddie Eagle program that instructs kids who are too young for gun safety training to STOP-DON'T TOUCH-LEAVE THE AREA-TELL AN ADULT. And they of course offer practical shooting instruction to those who are old/mature enough. Ironic that the groups trying to save us from guns, who even call themselves "Americans for Gun Safety" have nothing to offer regarding "gun safety" except, "We're trying to BAN them so no one has them." It's true. If you look up anything about AGS, they're for BANNING guns, not anything about "safety." Kids and guns are not a disastrous mix, unless you mix in "lack of education." -Jeffrey
I think that the biggest thing you're "failing to see" is that guns are tools, and can be useful for their required purpose. You're failing to see that guns exist in the world, and violent people (with and without guns) exist in the world, and guns enable even weak good people to protect themselves. A 95 pound grandmother alone at home can protect against two 190 pound assailants who break into her home, using a simple 9mm pistol, for example. She can save her own life. Would you require her to swing a BAT at those two guys? No way she'd save her life that way. The reason why the vast majority of people want guns in the house is because they are looking at it RATIONALLY, not IRRATIONALLY, and they're not willing to be afraid of an inanimate object. They see the rational truth that guns can be used to defend life justifiably. They realize that the police hardly ever get there in time to save anyone, and 99% of the time they are there to take reports and investigate a crime that has already been completed. It is up to the individual to protect him or herself. Period. And the most effective, efficient, available tool for that job is the handgun. Anyone who leaves his or her personal protection up to others deserves it when no one else rises to the task. Why should anyone else care more about protecting you than you do yourself?! -Jeffrey
I was being self depricating when i was continualy 'failing to see' .. you did not realise that so fair enough..plus i was being slightly lazy.. let me put a bit more effort into it .. I realise guns are tools and i am not so cocooned from the world too know their are violent people in the world.. with or with out guns in their hands. I am just going on living in the UK were, yes groups of people do have guns , burgulars may even have guns but.. It's a land awash with guns: an estimated 60 million Americans own around 200 million firearms. In 2003, 449,150 victims of violent crimes said they faced an offender with a firearm. Terrifying incidents like the 1999 Columbine High School shootings in which 15 students died always prompt calls for greater gun control but, for many Americans, owning a gun is as important as casting your vote. The debate has never been more intense: U.S. President George W. Bush recently attracted widespread criticism for failing to make time in Congress to renew a law banning the sale of military-style assault weapons. Anarchy in the UK? The gun crime statistics in this country are nothing like those of the United States. Home Office figures for 2002-2003 state that there were 81 homicides involving firearms, down 16 per cent from 97 the previous year. Firearms were reported to have been used in 10,248 recorded crimes, a two per cent increase over 2001-2002. Overall, firearms (excluding air weapons) were used in 0.17 per cent of all recorded crime. The case against gun control The National Rifle Association regards the right to carry arms as a key civil liberty, pointing to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." The NRA advocates what it calls responsible gun-ownership, which it says does not fuel gun crime. And what the NRA says packs a punch: hundreds of Congress members back the group. The case for gun control The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence is named after Jim Brady, a White House aide seriously wounded in an assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan in 1981. In 1993, the "Brady Bill" became law, requiring a five-day waiting period and background check on handguns bought at licensed dealers. The body states that, in 1998, dealers sold an estimated 4.4 million firearms, including 1.7 million handguns. The group also estimates that between one and three million guns change hands in the largely unregulated second-hand market. Sobering statistics The figures for U.S. gun crime are grim. The FBI estimates that 67 per cent of the 16,204 murders in 2002 were committed with firearms. According to the U.S. Department of Justice: "Homicides of teens and young adults are much more likely to be committed with a gun than homicides of persons of other ages." According to the FBI, 58 police officers were killed by a firearm while responding to a crime in 1998. http://www.uktv.co.uk/uktvPeople/More.cfm?ccs=49&cs=874 I did not just read all this and junp too the coclusions..it is just a e.g... I realise america is vastly bigger than the uk I might be naive in thinking the media wish to make 'gun crime' seem as bad as america http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4204843.stm I might live in a relativly peaceful city compared too many in the uk.. but it seems like the media 'love' ramping up the bad that goes on in this country , when in fact things are not that bad.. I can almost gaurantee for every crime commited in america, the uk media 'find' a similar story to match it .. their are many better things to compare and contrast and emulate than 'violrnt crime' and 'gun crime'.. We i don't think are anywere near america.. I would say tha vast majority of 'gun crimes' are that of replica guns..i don' think i will start panicking about all criminals carrying guns and are going too shoot me..so i need to carry a firearm, just yet.. Sadly we are being dragged that way by 'fear' not from the actualy increase in crime but overly hyped up crime because of better reporting too the police of crime so it does (on paper) seem like thing here are getting worse..so the media can't be accused of lieing (as such). So are americans more violent than us in the uk ? i don't think so. .. or imho you have had a greater and longer exposure to overt coverage of guns and their use in crime on your news , so this may have put 'fear' into your hearts . Because america is vastly bigger the amount of gun crime can be reported morning noon and night...with a diffrent victims each time (almost) in the ever blood lust nature of TV (we are maybe 10-20 years behind on this score). I don't want my country reduced to 'fear' on your scale..IMHO it all started when you had the right to bear arms and the law has not moved on from then..every nut, crank, concerned citizen, 'hunter' etc etc can get a gun if they want ..
