i personally think she should make up her own mind when she's a little bit older, especially with her being a little girl, if she was a boy and grew older-didn't like them, it'd be pretty normal to shave his hair off, but little girls however cheeeezzzzzeee it is wanna be princesses. They'll feel all different around the other kids.

My mum did that to me, i didn't appreciate it after cutting them out in class and getting into loads of trouble. Obviously i got older and re-did-dun them myself.

Agreed...I don't understand why you want to give your child dreads at that age...i'm Jamaican, and I never seen a female child with dreads in her hair before... this can damage her self esteem. At that age, kids want to fit in and not stand out.

i think dready kids are amazing, but i would wait until babe can voice their own opinion. kids change their mind a lot, but also, if their heart is set on something youll know about it. i'd wait a while :)

also, re HDH, dont mind her, her life is falling apart around her and she likes to bully other people to take her mind off it. nothing wrong with being a teen mom, it is infact quite natural (why do girls start having periods at 12?)

I don't get the "make your kids have dreads" thing here.... who is saying that?

It's really simple.... if your kid doesn't like brushing their hair, explain the alternative (but obviously, not like some scary threat) and push no more. If they don't brush (or let you brush without complaint, depending on their age) then they get locks. If they brush, they don't.

Sounds like an excellent lesson in cause and effect, too, with no inherently negative outcomes.

What are you all crowing about doing this to your kid, or hurting their self confidence? If they don't like them, hand them a hairbrush and conditioner, and scissors, and have yet another lesson in cause and effect, and patience vs. instant gratification.

@dreamsDOcomeTRUE you'll understand why I would want it if you had a child with hair that dreas when you look away for 10 min.. hehe, getting worse every week, but Im still just considering it, its just such a big decision cuz she is so small, hehe :)

@SiAnO if your hair is not dreadded does it dread by it self? :)

this morning I combed out 5 beautiful dreads that came just while she was sleeping.. haha, was too hard so I used coconutoil :) haha now her hair is oily but combable.. still trying to dread up again xD really wish my hair was like that :)

my sister had the same problem as a baby, my parents shaved her head and a few months later she had beautiful manageable hair. I know it's a little extreme but it solved the problem
