Chilean quake shifted Earth's axis?

I dont really know about 2012 and all that, but my first thought when I saw that 8.8 quake was "oh the end times are here"

I like to think the world will be fine, and we will all go on living happily in our cities and lives, so this is kind of wierd thing to think for me

 

If their are 31 million seconds in a year, Wouldn't that mean that every year we'd lose 24 seconds or so?

 

These were my thoughts exactly.. Bleh. Even my roommate, who normally looks down on everyone with these kinds of thoughts, is starting to change her mind..

 

Change her mind that the end times are coming because tectonic plates shift?

Really seeing no earthquakes would be a better sign of the end of days. :
