Revelations states seven times that it is about events that would happen in the near future. The book is believed to have been written in 95 A.D. "Near" is admittedly a relative concept when talking about God's time, but there's no basis for a year 2012, except that it happens to be a few years from our own time. The source for that particular belief comes from the Mayan calendar, and I don't think the Maya were any better at prediciting the future than the Delphic Oracle. So thier calendar ends in 2012. Did you expect them to carry it on forever? "Sages" were predicting an end eight years ago. (Remember Y2K?)

Almost from the time Revelations was written, people have been predicting that the end times will occur in their own near future, and that the Antichrist will be somebody they hate--including a few popes. (Except televangelist Jack Van Impe says it's poor King Juan Carlos of Spain, as a result of some abstruse reasoning about his connection to the Holy Roman Empire). From time to time, people have been persuaded by false prophets to give up all their worldly possessions and gather to wait the imminent date of destruction, and when it came and went without incident, kicked themselves for the rest of their life for being so gullible. If you think it's coming in 2012, do what you have to do to get ready. However, identifying Obama as the one who will bring this all about is either a reflection of your own political prejudices or (worse) a cheap election year ploy. There is certainly nothing in scripture to support that conclusion.

i'm thinking you are waiting for the anti-messiah.. 'cause he's the only one left

just watch out if you see the temple rebuilt in your lifetime.. that would make a definite believer out of me..

This is true but only our generation is capable of a system of credit that can be planted on/in the hand or head. I hope you are aware of RFIDs :S

I know people who think this is a great idea if done on a voluntary basis, because it would enable the authorities to track kidnapped children. Quite apart from Revelations, I'm leary of it, because it would enable same authorities to track people for other purposes, and if they can do it, they will! "Voluntary" is how it always starts out. In any event, I doubt that such a program will be in place by 2012. In a sense, Orwell could also be considered a great prophet, although he was off by a decade or so.
