yep, that's what I was going to answer too.

Libertine, read further into the bible instead of dissecting verses. Christ didn't say mean the biblical-times generation which he was talking to. Two verses down:

32 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. 34It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35"Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!' "

  3. I break my own moral code, I am flawed, that is one of the things that it is to be human

furthermore I have an interpretation of what it is to be christian, I have interpretations of what christianity is and what a lot of the things that people take so literally are

to call for christians to put up is very much similar to me asking an athiest to put up

    prove god doesn't exist

you cannot logically prove anything doesn't exist

there are some things you can't prove do

that is what faith is for, that's why the ten commandments are a great code to follow, they are law, but breaking the law won't keep you out of heaven, keeping it won't get you in

(well that isn't 100% true IMO, but that is another thread and it involves a lot of complicated stuff)

if you start taking everything in the bible literally you are going to get just as screwed up as the fundamentalists who think the world is in the region of 6000 years old, the letter of the law has a tendency to be moot when you are dealing with the spirit

I am well aware of this. This does not change the context in which he was speaking to them. He was saying it could happen at anytime, but he did give a time span of "their" generation. It was clearly an insinuation of "Anytime in your lifetime". Be ready, etc.. etc...

WHO was Jesus speaking with Matthew 24? Disciples. He was addressing the disciples. Matthew 24:3-Afterwards He was on the Mount of Olives and was seated there when the disciples came to Him, apart from the others, and said, "Tell us when this will be; and what will be the sign of your Coming* and* of the Close of the Age?"

These verses further what I said. They, in no way, contradict what I said.

1Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2"Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down."

3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" 4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

These are the signs that we are to look for.... did nation rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom? Were there various famines and earthquakes? And here is the biggest dagger.... was the gospel preached to the whole world? No it just frickin started!

Simply put, Jesus was not talking about the generation he was specifically talking to..... but a FUTURE GENERATION

The "future" generation within their lifetimes. The end of their age.

I proved he was speaking to the disciples. Prove he is speaking to you and not them.

I just did... The discples ask when will the end come and Jesus responds with a series of signs of his return. So I will restake the main reason why the generation Jesus is speaking of is not the generation of his disciples but a future generation that sees these signs....

    MATTHEW 24:
14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

The Generation that Jesus told this to (The disciples) had not even got close to preaching to the whole world... Therefore, Christ was speaking to a generation in the the future.... a generation that would see his words preached all around the world. It was Jesus who said, "Though heaven and earth will pass away MY WORDS will never pass away." Amazingly, this Jewish carpenter's words still hold true even today!

    take care

Well "man's interpretation" of Jesus' words have come to pass. Although I believe that men did write the Bible, they were guided by God. But never mind that, say it was just man's interpretation.... you are gonna tell me the few things that they wrote down about this Jewish carpenter.... spread all around the world exactly what "they" said it would do.

And to answer your question simply God would not ask me to kill you. And please don't think i hate you because you go against what I believe, even though i may seem hostile at times.... i am far from it.

    For thought and discussion:

In Luke Ch. 21, Jesus describes the signs of the coming end of time, and finishes with Verse 32: "Verily, I say unto you, this generation shall not pass away, until all be fulfilled".

Jesus specifically describes observable phenomena, and then states that it will all happen within the lifespans of those to whom he is speaking.

In Luke Ch. 17, Verses 20 and 21, Jesus had previously stated: "...The Kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here!, or Lo there!, for, behold, the Kingdom of God is within you."

He dismisses those who would predict his second coming and states that the Kingdom of God is an inner and individual matter.

In Matthew Ch. 24, Verse 24, Jesus states that the end will come only after the gospel is preached to the entire world.

2000 years ago, from a Rome-centered point of view, the known world extended West to the British Isles, North to barbarian lands in central and northern Europe, South to North Africa and Egypt, and East perhaps to Western India.

The concusion that I draw is that Jesus directly predicted that the end of the world would come in his time of history, after the gospel had been preached to the known world. He also cautioned against listening to those who purport to know when these events would happen.

I'm definitely no Bible expert, but I do recall reading that most of the books of the New Testament had been written by 50 to 100 years after the death of Jesus. There is no direct connection that I've read of between Jesus and the actual writing of Revelation. It was written by the Apostle John or more possibly his followers, around 80 A.D., as a series of letters of encouragement for the early followers of Jesus during a period of intense persecution in Rome.

Usually when people said "God told me to kill them" it wasn't from god...

However, if God did tell me to and I was sure of this I would do it just like abraham was told to sacrifice his son. Understand that God's knowledge beyond any of ours. However, I do not see why he would do that today...

And thats the debate... is there a God or is there not.... I say through the world we know that we know there is a God (Romans 1:20) I also say we know there is a God based on the Bible.... so what you have to do is discredit the Bible... or try to.... and I still yet have not seen anything that u have posted that has made me think.... everything u posted are misinterpretations.... What you think are contradictions are just lack of knowledge in that area...
