ESA's Roseta probe is set to land on comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko around 2.20am Thurs morning East Aussie time In one way its just a stupid rock, they are only going to find rock and ice. But in another way its the first time mankind will do that, I feel a little zen about that, one step closer to old french guys with british accents captaining starships in maroon jumpsuits
Actually, Saint Nicholas is on December 6th everywhere. The night before children clean their boots and St.Nicholas (aka their parents) leave them small gifts, if they've been good. If not, a creature Krampus leaves them golden twigs/rods/whatever you call it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Nicholas_Day vs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus And yes, yesterday was St.Martin's Day. We honor the day by drinking wine. Interesting traditions over the world.
Hello, I thought about watching the ESA live stream. But it comes in chunks of 10 seconds each to my place. No fun to watch. Regards Gyro
I never heard of Krampus until I took notice of german st. Nicolas celebrations. Here the good saint just visits every year with his horde of black Petes. Except that might change this year for the first time because a minority of black people feels it's racist (which is nonsense).
Ugh they always find something that ''offends'' them. Nonsense indeed. Hey let's change a long tradition just because several people find it racist!
he's been back three times already. and accomplished about as much each time as he did before. and christ was the return of moses and moses the return of abraham and abraham the return of noah and noah the return of the 18th name in the book of numbers and so on. get over it. that guy from nazureth a couple thousand years ago, was just an effing guy, other then possibly having channeled something big friendly and invisible for that last three years of his life, before the roman occupation caught up with and executed him, (NOT for preaching peace, but) for having led the insurgency against its occupation, from the time he was 12 years old. he may have been a cool guy and all that, and the god he channeled even cooler; but all the b.s. christerism came up with, ain't got jack to do with the kind of world we all have to live in. we do that. statistically together. and if we want a world that is peaceful, safe, free and rewarding, it is up to US, to make it so. not some invisible well meaning thing, loving enough, to let us fuck up, or grow up, as WE choose. (and i should add: as if what people choose to believe had jack to do with how anything works anyway. the universe is lovely and wonderful, precisely because it doesn't give jack about the human ego. nor need to.)
Although the town of which the visit of St. Nicolas gets broadcasted live on tv is giving in (as it seems so far) every town/community decides for themselves and I'm glad to hear most say 'fuck this shit', Pete's black and stays black. I can honestly say that I nor any other kid had any racist association with this celebration when growing up. Its mostly some butthurt adults that insist this kids party must be changed.
nickle nose may well have been one of the less bloodthirsty saints. i'll grant you that. something about bailing child prostitutes out of a pawn shop. depending which story you go by. all things change. also i didn't grow up in europe, so i don't know this black pete fellow. i've heard enough in the last four or five years to get the general drift though. i don't know why anyone would miss boogie men. there's enough carrots for doing the right thing we don't need sticks for doing the wrong one. to me it looks more like being obsessed with sticks instead of carrots has more to do with why so often humans do wrong to begine with.
Gooood morning, unfortunately I'm not allowed to see this video in this country. But I like it anyways . Regards Gyro
me too. and it did. and it may not be able to do everything intended because it doesn't get enough charging because its in a shadowed place. i like what i grew up thinking the midwinter holiday was about, which was neither chritianity nor marketing, but the idea of peace and what it takes to make and keep peace, and to celibrate THAT. along with being mid winter, a celibration of having made it that far through the cold months. nothing to do with either religion or marketing. just deep snow and the smell of pine needles. and the winter solstice.
There is something about celebrating a day that Christ was not even born on, chopping down a perfectly good tree and putting a phallic symbol in my house and hoping satan comes down my chimney! Debt, stress, obligation, gluttony. Yeah
^My mother would have agreed with you. She did not want to even say the word Christmas the last 10 years of her life or so.....and her dad was born on Christmas Day....my grandfather......... I celebrate what it is supposed to mean....good will towards men.... I love the music, colors, sparkling things, glistening snow, childhood memories.......celebrating the child that is still in me, and must be in all of you, as well.... I love the smells, all spice, cinammon, nutmeg...................... I do not get a tree ever. I celebrate the ones outside that are alive....... There is a magical stillness always and a bustling, too...The poet and artist in me still dreams......
^ i don't care much for most of the kind of music they play incessently. but i only hear that when i have to go in the stores to get groceries. but the rest of it, everything other then christianity and marketing, all the good stuff about hope and peace. yes i love all of that, and the magic feeling of it.
