Back in the 70's people in general understood that "pollution" was bad. Air pollution especially, and many were cleaning up their act on their own. The relationship between air pollution and climate change should be obvious. But now that the term "climate change" is being used instead of "air pollution problem" many people see the problem as something not related to them... "not their fault" , "not their problem". ( the "climate has always changed" crowd)

People seem to be missing the point, and messaging may be part of the problem.

Humans have a strong tendency to whistle through graveyards.

On the bright side, we have solutions

The Role of Pyrolysis and Gasification in a Carbon Negative Economy

Sad thing being we've known about pyrolysis since the days we were still using whale oil but lacked the incentives of today to focus on production of sufficient biomass to meet the needs,,,

Again not rocket science, nothing we couldn't have managed in the early 1900's.
(But again we lacked the incentives of today)

This whole discussion could have been avoided...

900 fires in Canada, cities wiped out last year in California, sea temps rising, coral reefs dying, floods killing people, this June the hottest on record, tropical diseases and pests moving northward-----Nah--nothing to it. Liberal bullshit. Glaciers melting, animals facing extinction--humans being exceedingly STUPID!!

I don't think I will ever understand why people continue to argue over this. Even if you don't believe in climate change, the fact that humans are polluting the planet at alarming rates should be enough to make everyone want to see changes for the better. Why argue against cleaner air, water, and soil? Why argue against healthier food? Why argue against a better future for your children or grandchildren?

It just makes no sense to me. :(

Cleaner air, water, soil and healthier food cost money. The almighty dollar holds sway.

These people would rather see the money spent on a border wall which will fail to stop illegal immigration. They support Trump, a twice-impeached multiple-indicted would-be dictator.

If it even hints at liberalism they're against it.

It makes no sense to me either. Their logic escapes me.

The evidence is clear, humans have caused massive climate change, for whatever reason.

    There is no denying it!

And yet so many do deny it. Hottest world temperature ever recorded? Mere coincidence.

The way I see it, we have at least two major issues with this. Number one, the massive costs of suddenly turning things around. The zero carbon infrastructure simply isn't built ready. Big oil managed to resist any changes in status quo for too long out of fear that they might lose their annual multi-billion dollar profits. And the average Joe simply isn't in a place where they could comfortably drop 45 grand on a new Tesla just like that. That shit's expensive, and the pro-electric people pretending that it's somehow affordable, when it obviously isn't, are just shooting themselves in the foot by making themselves look smug and arrogant. The inflation and loss of jobs resulting from Covid-19 and the russo-Ukrainian war isn't helping. There are a lot of people out there, who are angry that their financial troubles aren't considered here, because nobody wants to go broke over this. Certainly not in a country such as the United States where, if you fall into poverty, you're automatically a piece of shit, and somebody deplorable in other people's eyes. No empathy, no mercy, no appealing to extenuating circumstances. People resist, because they're deathly afraid of losing their quality and standards of living.

Number two is influence. Namely the fact that there are places on this globe where us, the westerners have none. In this world political atmosphere, russia and China, two of the biggest polluters on the planet along with the US, have made it abundantly clear that they have no intentions of ever doing anything that we tell 'em to do. russia in particular desperately relies on sales of their oil and gas to keep what's left of their broken economy going, and countries like China and India, both of them with populations in excess of 1 billion+ people, are just all too happy to take advantage of russia's plight and cheap oil, meaning they're not gonna cut down on using the black stuff any time soon. And they're not gonna listen to us either, because they don't want their cultures to be submissive to the filthy westerners as a matter of national pride. If anything, China is showing signs of wanting to expand further, to gain more "lebensraum". And the Indians have recently tasted some of that western quality living, and they want theirs too, no matter what.

In short, it's just incredible how fucked we are right now.

There is a message going around here in Mexico stating the following:

⚠️ The General Directorate of Civil Protection warns citizens and residents of the following:

Due to rising temperatures in the coming days, between 47 and 55 degrees Celsius, and the appearance of cumulonimbus clouds causing sweltering air in most areas, here are some warnings and alerts...

    Vehicles must be evacuated from:
    1- Gaseous substances.
    2- Lighters.
    3- Soft drinks.
4- Perfumes and device batteries in general.
5- Car windows must remain open (to breathe if no air conditioner).
6- Do not completely fill the fuel tank of the car.
7- Fill the car's fuel tank in the cool of the day.
8- Do not travel by car in the afternoons.
9- Do not over-inflate car tires, especially when traveling.

You must be careful with scorpions and snakes, as they will noticeably come out of their burrows and could enter farms and homes in search of refrigeration.

Drink lots of water and fluids.

Make sure you don't turn on the water heaters.

Make sure not to place gas cylinders in the sun.

Make sure you don't overload electricity meters and don't turn on air conditioners except where the family is, especially during the hottest hours.

Stay away from direct sun exposure, especially during the period from 10 am to 3 pm.

Finally: Please share this information when posting, as others may not know about it and may read it for the first time...

*Greetings from the General Directorate of Civil Protection*

I think the temperatures they refer to are the actual surface temperatures where in the direct sunlight.

Oh, quit bitching about the weather-----there's still lots of oil left to make money on! Figure out what's important, please---money or life.

We need to get rid of paper money though. It's liable to catch fire as the planet heats up.
