Nomi- the fascists have made it clear they are coming for us as well as anybody else who challeneges their "beliefs". They will kill you and anybody else who doesn't fall into line. That is not an exaggeration, they aren't fluffly little fascists with some silly thoughts. They are evil. Remember Mr Hitler, or Franco, or Mussolini, do you want that the happen in Britain today? I am a strong believer in non-violence, and i will probably only be throwing eggs\vegetables etc. Buti am not going to stop anybody beating the shit out of facists, especially in my home town were they are not welcome in the slightest. I also believe that people should be entitled to march for their views, BUT not when their views incite hatred and the killing of innocent people because of their skin colour\religion\sexuality.

jamie- i do see what you are saying and i don't particularly want them to march either or exist as a group for that matter. but you cannot counter hatred, evil and violence with more hatred evil and violence. believe me it doesn't work. take a look at history, take a look aorund the world now! as long as people counter it with the same thing it will never disappear, this is exactely why the world is in the state it is in!!! yes, the other way does take a little longer but trust me it makes much more of a difference to everyone involved. *sigh* why can't people see this????

I hate to say this and I do very much repect your views (which you couldn't openly share if the nazis were in power) but your knowledge of history is somewhat lacking.

Hitler himself said that if only people had taken the nazis more seriously in the early days then they would have never been able to do what they did.

Pacifism NEVER has worked against fascism. All it has achieved is millions of dead people.

In terms of taking a little longer....yes it does. Jesus preached pacifism and where did it get him or us?

I agree that non-violent action should always be the first resort, but sometimes it's not enough. And I'm afraid whatever you believe, it does work. Back in the late 80s when I lived in Liverpool, the NF decided to try and establish themselves in the area. The local anarchist group decided to pay a visit to the newly-opened NF offices, complete with baseball bats and balaclavas. The NF have never again attempted to organise in Liverpool since then.

A long time ago, a young 'fashion hippy' at my college said
"I hate fascists, they should all be lined up and shot"
I found it very amusing and yet tragic when it was apparent she didn't understand the irony in such a statement.

 

Irony? Depends on your definition of a hippy doesn't it?

Speaking of killing fash, my favourite anti-fascist quote ever was by a Canadian called Fred Baxter who joined the International Brigades in Spain during the Civil War.

When asked why he wanted to go and leave the safety of Canada he replied

Kind of sums it up perfectly for me.....

People can sit back and pretend the nasty nazis are not really THAT bad (probably because they're white-middle-class etc) and then moan something should've been done when they take over, or get off their backside and make sure the events of WW2 and also the more recent tragedy of Yugoslavia doesn't happen again.
