    YES!!!!

I mean, really, what if everybody was smart enough to Just Say No to War? It could work.

But, as long as people join the Military thinking it will be an "easy" way of getting some money, getting easy loans for money, getting "trained" for a job (although I know of no one who actually is able to get a job with the Skills they were taught in the Military) or to avoid having to live at home or actually do the hard work of College or making your own home, people will still Enlist.

    Go figure.

Human being went into the military thinking that for her the best thing to do was to follow orders and do what she was told to do. She thought that war was right including this one because someone said it was. She listend because she thought that the people who said war was right were in authority and that listening to those in authority, not thinking for yourself was the right thing to do. Now she is doing what most of us would have wanted her to do in the first place. Our support for her could make the difference between having one more person doing what is right or not. It doesn't matter what someone thought before they came over to the right side even if what they thought before was wrong. What matters is that they are on the right side now...ours.

Of course human being we wouldn't even be having this discussion if you just hadn't gone into the military to begin with.

no matter what we are all brothers and sisters; that is definately not the way that brothers and sisters should act.
you should be proud of yourself for doing what you know is right and f*ck them if they don't like it.
i understand that the army is definately the most comforting organization in the world but you just have to find peace and love within yourself and the rest will follow.
we are here for you anytime you need us. we are your brothers and sisters. we will accept you for you and them for them.

hmmmm, FYI, remember a name on a screen is just that brothers and sisters, we don't know for certain whether Human Being, is what she says she is. I'm not saying that there is any reason to think otherwise, however acknowledging the possibility of a group being infiltrated by agents of the gov't, is only keeping in mind the lessons of the 60's. One other thing to keep in mind....

"18 USC § 1381. Enticing desertion and harboring deserters, Whoever entices or procures, or attempts or endeavors to entice or procure any person in the Armed Forces of the United States, or who has been recruited for service therein, to desert there from, or aids any such person in deserting or in attempting to desert from such service; or Whoever harbors, conceals, protects, or assists any such person who may have deserted from such service, knowing him to have deserted there from, or refuses to give up and deliver such person on the demand of any officer authorized to receive him — Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

I entirely support "civil disobediance" as a legitimate form of protest, however believe that people should be aware of it, when "potentially" involved in it.

alrighty then, Human Being, how you doing? I feel for you girl I know how it is to buck the military, I was in the Air Force from 74-77, I sort of accidently enlisted when a friend and I had eaten bunch of shrooms, and decided to hassle the first recruiter we came across. As well I sort of lucked out, in that they made me a Tower Air Traffic Controller, by fed. reg. I could only work 27 hours a w3eek, and could have no other air force duties. That and the fact that I was stationed in New Hampshire, during a period when the Maine coastline was thepot runners choice port of entry, made possible for nearly 3 years of my 4 year contract to go by before I was going to be charged with mutiny for telling; increasingly higher ranked, increasingly hostile officers; "Sir, I'm sorry sir, but with all due respect, and due to deep seated philosophical beliefs, I cannot comply with that order. The order was to return to work in the control tower, at Pease AFB. a Strategic Air Command, base.
(loaded nuke bombers at the end of the runway launchable within 10 minutes of notice. It took 7 months but eventually I got out with a no code, honorable discharge. Cake walk compared with you situation Human.
Let me see now 20 years old, joined at 18 probably hmmm seems to me that is smack in the middle of the well documented developmental stage of establishing psychological autonomy. Oh and btw I'm not buying the "learn something new" story, hell most of everything is something new at 18 ;), so what was really going on? Some potentially useful scenarios: parental pressure to move out of house, high area of unemployment, no money for college, high school fiance ran off with a cheerleader, how's this, highschool fiance joined the peace corps. You getting my drift here human? Oh and how bout those dreams, night terrors you,ve been having of seeing yourself in your gunsights? That should clinch it Human Being, you may even end up with a medical discharge. I don't believe for a second you deserve anything less than a general discharge. Research, prepare, be disciplined about it, in other words best of luck.
