Like John Lennon has said, freedom comes from within.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have thought I was going insane as well, but that's the inevitable experience when one undergoes a spiritual journey. The journey never ends however, and nothing can be known 100%, but truths can be discovered through an open mind.

I couldn't believe of the types of thoughts that I have arrived at, then looked to religions and was disapointed that my idea wasn't original. But two different people arriving at the same ideas is incredible, and many people would deny that as ridiculous an impossible; but indeed, it happens all of the time, because there is TRUTH within these ideas.

Not everything can be known, but does it really have to? Like Confucious has said, why concern yourselves with the heavens when life right now is the most important thing that you have - Focus on that.
