Have you been to London before?
In London there is a greater area of retail shops, banks and hotels etc.
Plus, London has the London underground.
When I went there a few months ago, I spent some time looking around for an abundance of CCTV.
There is not as many as you may think.
Just like everywhere they are outside/inside/watching the e.gs I gave earlier.
The CCTV covering shops etc point at the doors not outward.
The ones in shops cover what is occuring in shops (big suprise).
Aside from the shops and business' there are not any on the streets, aside from like I said, in problem areas (where residents have asked for them).
They are NOT pointed at you whereever you go.
They are not every few hundred feet.

I have seen that footage before, go check out Jack Bonnar and the attitude of the general public have of those cameras.
That is an individual council dicision, not a top down governmental one.
It still is within the bounds of the legislation covering the use and misuse of CCTV.

    BTW Nowhere near London

I find those posters really creepy and offensive, I've seen them around.

A lot of those cameras, especially the poles with multiple cameras, are for the congestion zone charging. They ID license plates to see if you paid the C-charge.

Actually... ooops... this is getting off topic isn't it?

    Conspiracy or Lobbying!

oh wow its not just somewhere, its everywhere,,just google it..

    talk about invasion of privacy,,..
i guess people like odon feel there only right to privacy is in there home...

The effectiveness of them is a completely different issue.

They are not watching houses, they are watching the roads.
Any that are watching houses are attached to the home by the occupier or are on shop/business.
I've been there Rat, you clearly have not.

Yes, like I said there are going to be more in London.
The further out (of London) you go the less prelevant they are.
Don't forget where I said the majority are.
Like I said, if you consider this to be EVERYWHERE.
    Case closed.

If they were indeed every few hundred yards (aside from on a row of shops). I would be concerned. They are not. Neither are they watching my every move. I respect the right of a business owner to want to protect their business. I respect the fact some people want them watching over there estates. Yes, there are some in City centres watching the hub bub of centre activity, but this is also related to crim within the business areas and trouble is rife after dark.
When it comes to a point that i feel they are literaly every where I turn, watching my every move. Then I will let you know.

Banding about 4.2 million CCTV camers in London forgets where they are and what they are actually doing.
You will find the majoriy are in / on places of work or looking on the roads.
Not lining the streets...as super sexy as that idea might sound to people like Rat and seemingly you.

I'm not defending the use of them.
Just pointing out where they are and what they actually do.

But it isn't "his" country, kind of like the US isn't "our" country. We may like to think it is, but both countries are under the control of the same international elite. That's what people need to realize and understand that this sort of thing is being implemented everywhere. People like to defend what they falsely believe is theirs, which causes them to not want to look at the facts and instead resort to this reactionary mindset that somehow one country is better than another for whatever reasons.

What they do? They acclimate you to living under a surveillance state. Of course they're going to tell the public that they're good and are used for this and that, but some people can see through the propaganda. Not every Briton is as apathetic as you are. Some people actually care.

"Reactionary mindset" - I think clearly you have one of those.
All you probably did is type "CCTV London" into google and click on a few pics you liked. Or what some loon has said on infowars
    http://www.infowars.net/articles/april2006/170406watching.htm
You clearly have no idea what they (CCTV cameras) were doing or where they are. You did not even bother to check where Middlesborough was.
Clearly you think everywhere is called London;).

I was referring to all of Greater London and other cities in England -- not just the City of London where the world is run from. However, there are 4.2 million cameras in London, so how can you argue with that when that is a fact?

I care, Rat. Deeply in fact. Don't condescend me like that please.
You can't see through it or you would have been a little more careful of the imagery you used.
I'm not apathetic, Im just not as reactionary as you.

Ofcourse you were: They even have talking cameras in London that are monitored around the clock. Watch this if you don't believe me.

The world is run from London now? wow this is a new one.

I have read how many there are, but you have to remember and appreciate where they are situated.
If they were lined up (not on places of business) along the pavements, you would have a good point, and clearly I should and I would be concerned.
This is not the case though.
All that figure shows is that somebody (probably somebody apposed to CCTV) as requested (through the FOI act) how many CCTV cameras are there in London.
As they all have to be registered to be used,
this would then highlight every single one registered, where ever they maybe, from on the roads to ones situated in Mr Patels minimart.
