cpu freezes all the time...wtf?

    i got that scandisk program and ran it, but the computer still freezes all the time.
    is there anything else i could try short of a new OS?

    I don't really know, I suppose it could be the hardware, if you have particularly cheap hardware or something...
    Maybe you could reformat, and reinstall everything?

    Sometimes it's as simple as your CPU (processor) overheating because its cooling or power supply fan is bad.

    eMachines are very prone to overheating.

    Can you feel air moving in or out of the fan from the back of your case?
    It's usually at the top.
    Is the area around the fan grill hot?

    If you can open the case does the CPU heat sink (fins) have a cooling fan?
    Is it turning?
    Are the heat sink fins/fan clogged with dust/lint/hair?
    Is the heat sink hot?

    Just a coupla things to check...

    Yeah definitely check that, if you haven't opened your comp up recently the fans and everything are probably swamped with dust...
