reality, its much more interesting than the American Fantasy thats made up of MTV, E!, National Enquirer, People Magazine, etc... the subjects i tend to pick are real people... with interesting faces or interesting stories. i go into the city and walk around and mostly just drop in on the art galleries, take photos of people with dogs and some asshole eating a chili dog, sipping a beer.... ill ride the subway and stare at people, sketch them, watch them get weirded out and get on the next car. after all, i'm on winter break so i got nothing better to do... going to a figure drawing class on wednesday, found it on craigslist.
Oh I agree! Reality is so much more interesting, no question about it. I was simply saying that if I really wanted to sell artwork, I would have better luck at making some sort of profit by making stuff the masses would "appreciate". But I take it back. I don't think I could ever compromise my artistic ability and change the statement of who I am as a person and artist just to appeal to others. If they like what I create, so be it. If they think it's dumb, so be it as well. I love people watching too. Going to public shopping areas during christmas is especially entertaining. My favorite place to watch people is downtown portland oregon. I swear, it is a town of individuals and creatives. Saturday market is swarming with interesting looking people.
oooh yes! i like to go the the Boston Symphony during half time and watch all the people dressed up real fancy... and then i can sneak in if i've dressed well too.
I think thats one of the greatest gifts to be recieved....Congratlations because that is just phenomenal...:cheers2:
I love that portrait! In the first picture, I didn't realize that you used words to shade. It is beautiful, keep up the great work!
^^ same here! I thought it was a great self portrait and then when I saw that it was made up of words, zoinks! Amazing!
